I mean just the plate loaded machines, not the free weight barbells.

The reason I ask is because there was one chick up their last week and she was looking at the machine like WTF. I just made a fist at her and said "just do it" and went about my business. Then I hear some people say it is bad etiquette to leave plates on the machines and consequently notice there usually aren't any chicks up their using those machines, may be cause they usually have at least 2 45 lb plates on them.

Also, if you are answered and are not a gal, DO YOU HAVE SOME SORT OF GENDER IDENTITY CRISIS OR SOMETHING?

I would have offered to help, but I didn't want her to think I was hitting on her. Plus I am an ***hole.

What if I find the machine with 6 45 lb plates on it and use it that way? Should I leave it like that?

Usually for the machines, at my club at least, people just leave them on and for the bars *usually* people take them off. I have not noticed any guys caring one way or the other.

I think it's more of a "manners" issue. But I wouldn't get annoyed. The thing is this...leave the machine how you find it, if it's 20lbs or 50lbs. When people get on a machine, it is their responsibility to look at the weight in/on it, not just sit down and start their routine. Do you ever sit at a bench and lift and its 10 lbs? does that annoy you? It would me. Which is why I say look at it first, and adjust it. No one can say what a reasonable amount of weight is, so try to estimate to your best. Some people may have certain health issues that aren't obvious, and maybe the 45lbs was too much for her...hernia, recent operation, etc...But if a girl gets all upset, chances are that the weights are the least of her problem, she probably has other issues that far outweigh the weights. Your actions, however, were uncalled for, you could have been less callous, and said, "oh, sorry, could I help you with that." Just as a gesture, and it wouldn't hurt you, think of it as an extra rep. And don't forget to wipe the bench. :-)

Normally it is poor etiquette not to put things back where you found them.At the gym it is really nice to take over so the last person does not have to put plates away and you do not have to pick them up.Even better is when it can happen for the next person waiting needs what your using. Now that is a triple win situation.

I'm not sure if "annoyed" is the right word, but it's common courtesy to leave the gym equipment as you found it, so the next person doesn't have to move your plates and their own. Chances are the gym has rules about this.

It's bad manners not to pick up after yourself,no matter what your gender! You are supposed to remove all of the extra weights from the machines. That's STANDARD gym etiquette. You are also required to wipe your sweat off of the machines, pick up your own messes, and generally behave yourself among strangers.
