It makes me wonder if we should be so comfortable with the bats that hang out in our backyard after all. Any one know about this biting aspect?

I'd asked a question before and people said "Don't worry." I stopped worrying, but then this article came up.

I wouldn't worry unless you plan on sleeping outside or somewhere bats live such as the girl scout camp. I have been a outdoor person all my life and just make sure if you are going to spend the night in the outdoors make sure you have a tent or camper. There is a chance of rabies everywhere such as wild cats, dogs, raccoons, anyway just about any animal that is not domesticated can carry rabies. I really wouldn't worry you will drive yourself crazy.

If you have a bat problem, you and your family need to be treated for rabies NOW. Bats can bite without you ever knowing because their teeth are so small and sharp. You should also call your local animal control in order to have the bats removed as soon as possible.

You should also call your vet about any household pets, especially if they are not up to date on their vaccinations.

Bats are okay! Except~ they can carry rabies. They are wild.
Here's the rule..... if any nocturnal animal is awake and in daylight hours IT IS SICK or starving. Call animal control asap.

Never make them pets. Keep them away from the kids & pets and they will be wonderful additions to your backyard. They feast on bugs that we just hate! It would be fun to put a black light on your back porch and turn off interior lights and watch them hunt, its really amazing.

Been batty before! Too city for their tastes now!
