My ritual is burnt toast, a multi-vitamin and lots of water before bed.

Here's why:

The carbon from the burnt outside acts as a filter to help sweep away toxins. (They use the same idea for victims of alcohol poisoning in the emergency room, except those people get a much more potent carbon mixture pumped into their stomachs.)
The bread helps to absorb some of the alcohol.
The multi-vitamin helps replenish vitamins A, B6, C, potassium, and others which are lost during alcohol metabolism.
The large quantity of water, necessary to down the vitamin and get the burnt taste out of your mouth anyway, helps with the dehydration.

You actually fight the three major causes of a hangover with this: acetaldehyde (the toxic by-product of alcohol metabolism), dehydration and nutrient depletion.

Cheers!

The best thing to avoid a hangover is not to drink too much! Pace yourself and stick to drinks you know aren't going to have a bad effect on you. Some people find spirits and shorts make them feel worse than lager or beer because there is less liquid in them so they dehydrate you more. Plus they are a lot stronger than beer, lager or cider. Don't drink on an empty stomach as it'll hit your system far too quickly if you do.

Also the cheaper the stuff you are drinking the more likely you are to feel bad as cheap booze has loads of chemicals and additives in it. Better quality stuff will be purer. Really expensive whiskey is the best thing to drink and not get a hangover, but you have to be able to afford it!!!

Red wine is the worst for hangovers I find.

Drink plenty of water before you go to bed to avoid getting dehydrated when you wake up. When you get up have something to eat, it doesn't have to be a fry up but just some cereal or toast or fruit as you'll feel worse if your stomach is empty. Take some paracetamol for a headache if you need to but not aspirin as that will just irritate a dodgy stomach.

A really good homoepathic remedy for hangovers is Nux Vomica. I gave a girl I met on holiday some of this when she was feeling really ill and it sorted her out in no time.

Its up to you, hangovers are self inflicted so you can try to avoid them.

Some thing stodgy like bread to soak up the alcohol, painkillers for the headache, a sugary drink for the thirst and shakes (isotonic lucozade works really well for me) and a selective memory for the nights embarasment. A lot of people say bananas are good before you start on a binge but it just costs more to get really hammered in my opinion.
If it doesn't work just grin and bear it it's not the end of the world!

Big glass of Iced tea, the tannic acid will calm the stomach and lots of caffeine for the headache, a slice of dry wheat toast, and horizontal down time in a cool dark place.

Or just get up and face the day w/a big bowl of menudo, and fresh homemade tortillas.

Finding a good hangover cure would be a mistake, because you would then drink even more.

Two Advils and a glass of water before going to bed. Chew the Advils and leave them under your tongue a few secs. They'll act faster!
In the morning: O.J. small toast with honey and if you're up for it an egg (i prefer scrambled)!
Still feeling sick: Ginger ale
