I'm 55 and not only do I use it personally, I worked with an anti-aging physician who recommended it. As to pros, it is only useful for people who are 40+ and preferably if they have a proven deficiency through a blood panel. However, there is "probably" no problem with taking it as long as you keep the dosage below 100 mg per day. To be on the safe side, start low at 25 mg. Stay on that dosage for a couple of weeks. If you aren't experiencing any undesirable side effects, but also don't feel any better, up the dosage to 50 mg. continue that approach until 100 mg. Higher than that, work with a doctor.
The primary benefit of DHEA is that it is a precursor for Human Growth hormone and the sex hormones. That means if you are low in these hormones, DHEA provides the building blocks the body needs to produce those hormones. Beyond that, the most common noticeable benefits are more energy, easier to maintain muscle tone as you age, easier to lose and/or maintain better weight. There are other benefits, but those are the biggies.
Probably the most common downside is that it can make you more emotional. My husband, who also takes it, always knows when he needs to cut back, because he is gets irritable very easy. Some people who are against DHEA fear that it could increase cancer cell activity. Mind you, this is only a THEORY, however, if you have a pre-existing cancer or are at an unusual risk for cancer, I'd certainly think twice about using it.
If you want to learn more, try reading the book "Grow Young with HGH" by Klatz. It is probably the best book for the layman. It is a very easy read and quite informative.

I am 51, female. Take 150mg of DHEA daily. Using DHEA, I have gotten off of antidepressants entirley, no longer need antianxiety meds, have lost 35 pounds in the last year. I have more energy, better skin tone, and normal fasting blood sugars. Was diagnosed with metabolic syndrome, which once I started DHEA, went away entirely. Haven't yet experienced a downside associated with taking the med.....but really do feel it if I run out and miss taking it for a day or two.

I am 51 and have taken DHEA on and off for years. The cons are if you take too much, you can get pimples like a young teen. The pro's are wonderful. It improved my libido and performance. It also gives me energy and makes my workout easier. I have noticed increased muscle tone, but since I don't want increased muscle size, I don't take it during workout periods. Good Luck
