i'm on a diet, sticking to between 1400 and 1700 calories daily. but i am having the first period i've had in 6 months and i feel really weak. is it okay to add a few extra calories? obviously in a healthy form... maybe a bowl of cereal, some yogurt, whole wheat toast, veggies, fruit? etc?

i actually just started the diet.. it's not what's causing me to not have periods.. i have some hormonal imbalances, sadly. however, my diet and a supplement i'm taking were given to me by an MD to use to get myself in fertile position.

I don't know if you've set yourself this diet or if it was set to you by a doctor, but you shouldn't feel weak, if you feel weak you're putting too much strain on your body and it will function less. The best way to loose weight/stay at the same weight is to have enough energy to stay active, without too much so that your body stores it.
Bottom line is, if you're feeling weak, wether it be periods, sickess, physically active day, then the extra calories won't hurt, because the fact that you're feeling weak means you've already burnt off quite a few calories and your body NEEDS more.

The reason you're feeling weak is because of all the blood you are losing, or more specifically, you are losing more iron than normal. First, I'd talk to a doctor to be sure of what's making you feel weak, it could be something more serious. But if it's not, I'd take iron pills or eat a little bit more iron during your period to balance out what you are losing.

you need to increase your calories in general if you haven't had a period in 6 months and feel weak. This means that your base metabolism is higher than what you're taking in right now. If you don't start eating more, your metabolism will go into starvation mode and you will gain weight. This happened to me two years ago, so my advice is to gradually start adding on more calories (healthy ones, like you said), and build up to 2000 a day.

Of course. Listen to your body. You know what you need. A banana always helps me because I need the potassium when I get weak. Good luck on your weight loss!

I'd say so. Get that craving out of your system. Just don't over indulge.
