I live in LA... so I can offer some suggestions. If your looking for a nice clean quiet beach i'd go to Malibu to Zuma Beach or Point Dume. Beautiful! Lots of shopping all over... check out Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, 3rd Street Prominade in Santa Monica, Hollywood and Highland (which is also where the Chinese Theater is and the walk of fame and the hand/footprints). Of course there are all teh theme parks that have been listed already. If your looking to go to clubs there is the Sunset Strip.. lots of clubs! The Warner Brothers Tour is nice, but more expensive, if you want a studio tour... but your not TOTALLY into it... the NBC tour is nice... not to pricey but gives you what you want.. plus you can see where tehy film the Tonight Show. You can also try to get tickets to that. Taking a day trip out to Catalina is always nice... or a drive up to Santa Barbara. It really depends on what it is YOU like to do.... but 7 days isn't nearly enoguh to do all the things LA has to offer... but have a great trip!

California has so many beautiful things to see, that I feel you would be wasting your time going to Magic Mountain, Knotts Berry Farm, Etc. Those places are good if you have little kids that are out of control and need to run wild. Same goes for Zuma beach - it is quite possibly the most crowded, most developed and least scenic of all the southern california beaches. Leo Carillo is a much nicer beach. They have camping across the highway, and if you walk through the campground you can follow some nice hiking trails. If you are into nature, Malibu Creek is also a nice option.

The Getty museum is nice

Some worthwhile but not necessarily the greatest experiences:
Walk down Hollywood Blvd between Vine and La Brea - you can see the Mann's Chinese Theatre, numerous stars on the walk of fame and all kinds of homeless crackheads, which is what Hollywood has become. Venice beach is another experience that I have not found to be like anywhere else I have ever been. Go see the Hollywood sign, so you can say you did - people will surely ask you about this if you tell them you went to Hollywood.

First, you'll want to rent a car. Unfortunately, Los Angeles is not a great place for public transportation.
1. Head up to Malibu (try Zuma beach) for a day of surfing or boogie boarding, you can rent the equipment at the beach.
2. Pick Universal Studios, Disneyland, or Knott's Berry Farm for a day. Don't try to do all the theme parks, you'll get bored.
3. Wander around Venice Beach for a day to stare at the weirdos and eat pizza on the beach.
4. Take your rental (or Amtrak) up to Santa Barbara for a day. It's a nice place to check out. The train goes from Union Station (downtown Los Angeles) to downtown Santa Barbara.
5. Take the ferry to Catalina for a day to go snorkeling (you can rent wetsuits and snorkeling gear out there).
6. Go to the Page Museum and Tar Pits, where loads of dire wolves, sabor toothed cats, and even mammoths got stuck in the tar and are on display in the museum. During the summer, you can see ongoing excavations.
7. Go to the Getty Museum. Don't forget to take a picnic!

Well if its family type stuff, Disneyland, Knotts, Magic Mountain, Legoland.
Go to the beach, just try and stay away from the beaches in LA and OC, nasty and full of sewage. The beaches from Dana Point on south are very nice and fairly clean.
Go shopping, hit some clubs, hell get tix for a game show, Jay Leno. Get a rental, and go cruising up PCH (Hwy 1), or screw LA and go hit up the scene in San Diego, its only about an hour or so away. Go to one of the Improv's in the area.
Man you got so much to do...... It really depends on what you wanna do, and who is goanna be with you.

I'm in OC, not far from LA at all. Here's some things to do: Go to the beach, all beaches are different and have something different to look at shop, etc.; Disneyland; Knott's Berry Farm; Six Flags Magic Mountain; Sea World, Wild Animal Park, San Diego Zoo (if you want to go south to San Diego); Shop at Rodeo drive, go to the walk of Stars, Groman's (sp?) Chinese Theatre where the stars put their hand and foot prints in cement; House of Blues on Sunset; See a show; go to the Wax Museum. Hope that helps!

well if youre a tv fan i`d recommend the WB studios in Burbank! I live in Germany and was in Cali 2 months ago! I am a fan of the WB hit show gilmore girls and i saw most of it at the studios which was awesome! Also the Universal Studios are good, but not that entertaining when it comes to movies and tv shows. We saw the Desperate Housewifes street but thats about it. I already went to the Univ St 4 years ago and it was pretty much the same :-/
There is Beverly Hills of course... ummm.... what else did we see....

Santa Monica Pier, Disneyland in Long Beach, Magic Mountain in Valencia, Universal Studios in Universal City, Universal Citywalk, Chinese Theater in Hollywood, Walk of Fame, Ripley's Believe it or Not in Hollywood.
You're also going to be only 4 hours from Vegas if you take I-15 east.
