It serves as communication to let others know how they are feeling. Wagging is happy, down is sad or scared.

I don't know why humans have big toes.

1. All animals including human being had tails.
Tail of human beings gradually regressed in the process of evolution, so do the dogs will loose one day.

2. So they can wag them and show how happy they are to see you.

3. So that they have something to chase

4. I think it helps them balance, but dogs who get them cut off don't seem to have problems.

5. So dog can show affection to his owner by wagging his dog

7. To show u that their happy.... im just going by what my vet told me when i ask the same question ......

For communication. They have different wags that tell other dogs different things. Plus it's silent, which is good in hunting. Dogs that don't have tails, have them removed when they are pups, they aren't born that way.

Dogs with long tails use them as a rudder to steer when they're running.
