Which is better, a Labrodor Retriever, or a Golden Retriever?

I think Golden Retriever. They are a more mellow breed. Labs tend to have more nervous energy and want to work more than lay around the house. Read Marley and Me for more details. lol I've enjoyed the labs I've seen and even owned, but my Golden Retriever has never done anything destructive except to his own toys and has never hurt anyone.

I personally SEVERELY DISLIKE labs. They are over bred and bred by too many people who have NO idea what they are doing. Therefore you end up with dogs that are, no offense, but very dumb. They have little, if any, self control because they are way to excitable. They just won't calm down. WAY TOO INTENSE! Everyone says they are just soooooo loyal, but I find the opposite true. Any stranger can just pet them or give them food and they will go with them and never look back. Also, I don't think they are a good dog for young children because, although unintentional, they get excited and knock them over, then they see they are scared so they start to lick them, which scares them even more. Also, not a good dog for the novice dog owner. They are VERY hard headed. They need an owner who can lay down the law. They also require massive amounts of exercise. One more thing, I have worked at two Boarding kennels, and out of the 9 bites I've received 7 have been from labs

I have had both kinds of dogs and my golden retriever was very laid back and kinda lazy but always wanted to play with a tennis ball when he saw it...my lab was excited all the time and calmed down when he got older but both were friendly and great dogs. Also when you pick out the dog you can ask the owner how they are, the owners should be able to tell which puppies are more your type!! Good luck!!

Labrador Retrievers are friendlier than golden retrievers however a golden retriever is a good guard dog while labs only bark to protect the house.
Also, labs have shorter hair which never needs to be cut unlike the case of golden retievers...

I could take either, both breeds are beautiful. Golden Retrievers are more gentle towards kids, although my labradors are great with kids and are very protective...they are keen to a child touch, smell and affection. I believe the only real difference here is (at least to me) is the hair you have to clean up...YIKES!!..but don't be fooled Labs can shed as much as Golden's do.

I owned 3 Chocolate Labs, they loved to be brushed and didn't shed awhole lot, but my Black lab now sheds terrible.

One thing I must tell you, if you get a male PLZZZZZZZZ have him neutered by time he is 18 mths as they get very aggressive and ornery, and very territorial and overly protective with children.

Pick the one you feel will fit in your family, treat it well and love him/her all you can...they can live up to 15 yrs. GOOD LUCK!!

I think golden retrievers are more calm than most labs. It depends on what you want in a dog. Some people prefer a more energetic dog that can jog with them, hike, whatever. All dogs need exercise to release energy, some require more than others. Whether they get enough for their needs affects their behavior, destructive, non-destructive, etc.

I have owned 3 Labs in my life and I love them. I currently have just one yellow lab and she is great! I don't know anything about goldens, so can't help you there. I prefer the lab because of their short hair. Goldens have a much shaggier coat. But all of my labs never seemed to outgrow their "puppy" stage. They seemed hyper forever! My lab is very protective of the whole family, she's like my "3rd child" (I have 2 human children!) She also plays well with other dogs and likes all of our guests. She's not aggressive. She's just a great dog! If people like a bigger dog, I would recommend a lab anyday!
