You might want to consider selling it, and just putting the cash away for a new one. Since it will be for a few years. However, if you keep it - make sure to put it up on a pallet or something that will keep it up off the floor in the storage unit. Also put --a lot-- of mothballs under the pallet and in the storage unit. This helps drive pests like mice and roaches/bugs away (works really good for mice). A non humid storage unit is best, but those are expensive sometimes, or hard to find. Sprinkle baking soda inside it where the food goes, and then leave some open boxes of arm & hammer baking soda in there as well. Also crinkled up newspaper helps absorb the moisture and scents. Like a few people said, keep it upright, and check for mouse droppings & nests before you turn it on again (and dried out seals like the other gentleman suggested).
Mouse droppings and mouse dropping dust carries some really bad things so sterlize it real good before using it (where you put the food). Wipe any sweat (water) off the inside before sealing it up.

if it is not already old and on its last leg, worst case the seals could dry and the freon gas leak out or the motor could lock up from sitting. If it is under 5 years old it will be allright no doubt>

as long as it is stored in an upright position and not laying down, it should be okay. Just check it for stuff around the motor and compressor when you go to plug it back in...(nests from mice and rats)

If stored somewhere out of the weather then there is no reason why it should not work.
