It depends on where you live. For us in California, the beach is a great place to have a picnic. One of the best places is Shoreline Park in Santa Barbara. Buy a cooler and bring an assortment of breads and lunch meats (or sandwiches), fruit salad, potato salad, cole slaw, pickles, a bottle of wine, two bottles of water, nice napkins, nice plastic cutlery, mustard and mayo in a bottle. If there are no tables, bring a blanket to sit on the grass. Bring two wine glasses as it has a bit of class. Picnic baskets are expensive, but a cooler is the way to go. Above all, give yourself the time to feed your senses as well as your stomachs.

To make a picnic simple, make her favorite sandwich, favorite chips, a six-pack of soda, favorite cookies and a good comfy blanket a little music and a good shady tree nearby in case it gets too hot. If you want to go fancy, prepare a nice meal and bring a bottle of wine or champagne and a candle or flowers. You can always do take-out too. It's the fact that you are together that should matter.

Been there. A picnic isn't as bad as you think. After all it's some girls dreram date.
Make it romantic. A blanket is a start. If you know her favorite foods bring those and two or three deserts. If she says I can't eat that I'll get fat. Tell her she could never look anything but beautiful in your eyes and MEAN it.
If its after noon bring a bottle of grape juice i know its super cheesy but...

You need to go and get one of those, "Checkered" blankets, red & white, and a nice bottle, of Champagne, some, cheese, and good crackers.....Take like some, strawberries, and good dark chocolate, and a "Candle-Fondue-Set",, and like some cold fried chicken, and a frisbee, with a football, or a bat, glove, and baseball, or a chess-set, with checkers, being another blanket game........ And melt the chocolate, like after, she has a couple of glasses, of Champagne, but, dont take advantage of her on the first date, just play it safe, in case, she's a Good-Girl, and even if she's not, she'll respect you more,, for not, approaching her that way, just yet....You can feed eachother the chocolate strawberries, and or just eat them together, during your conversing, .........And keep it all, on the "Up &Up" you know, what I mean,,,,,,,Keep it respectful.....And just have some "Good, clean, Fun"!!! Oh, and dont forget the Plastic, Champagne, glasses!!! Smile, and have a Wonderful, time, for all of us!!!

Go to Pier one and get a basket, some come with the plates and utensils. Then, go to the deli and get some water crackers, brie, a baguette, some proscuitto, grapes, apples, and maybe some colby and salami. Then, get some sparkling cider. Dont forget the blanket and maybe a little pillow for later. Have a fun time.

just take a backpack and fill it with things she likes and a few things you like :P and take a blanket and a single rose for her. Don't tell her that your makeing her the picnic just tell her you want to go to the park or to the beach and then pull the stuff out and just say "surprise" she will like that you did it all by yourself and put thought into it.

A nice bottle of wine and finger foods. Nothing messy, nothing needing refrigeration like mayo. Fruit, small sandwiches or veggies, cheese and bread, vinigar based salads.

Wine, cheese, strawberries, sandwhiches, and stuff in paperbags that can be thrown away afterwards. Who wants to lug around a huge picnic basket. I know that they are pretty, but too much hassle.
