People who actually enjoy pain and beatings are known as masochists. Getting pleasure from inflicting actual pain is known as sadism. Either of these, when the person involved is actually injured or is non-consenting, is considered a mental disorder.
HOWEVER, there are many people and couples who enjoy some spankings, bondage, mild pain, and dominance/submission role play as part of their sex life, and this is usually perfectly normal. So long as both parties are consenting and no one is getting actually injured, it is not considered abnormal. People who enjoy being submissive during sexual play often say it relieves anxiety.
If you are instead talking about domestic violence, in which a man regular beats his partner and uses other tactics to control her, that is never normal. Women who are battered do not stay because they like it. The number one reason they stay is that they fear they will be killed if they leave. This is a very rational fear, as usually the man has said "If you leave I will kill you" or "If you leave I will kill your kids", and he has a history of using violence against her, and often she has tried calling the authorities and this has not stopped the violence. It is a fact that the time when a battered woman is most likely to be killed is when she is leaving or has just left (because now he is losing control of her, and killing her is the ultimate control).
Another reason a woman might stay in such a situation is that after years of abuse and isolation she has come to believe she has no way out, that she is helpless to change the situation. She may have come to believe it when he says how worthless she is. While you and I may see the way out, she does not.
I say this as a professional counselor who has worked with hundreds of battered women. Women don't stay because they like it.

Depending on the type of beating you are talking about. Some like it as a sexual turn-on, spanking and what not. Other types of beating (the abuse type) for some women sadly is a way of life. They do seem to have a certain dependency on it to keep their lives in order as it is all they know.

No woman whats to get beat up. After it keeps happening, women tend to feel like they deserve no better, and it's hard for them to get away. Help someone if you can.
