Yes we killed lots of people. But so did Japan, and China, and Germany, and on and on. Why this sudden fascination with Hirshoima and Nagasaki?
Why don't you find out what Japan did during WWII before you judge one side.

I think you are entitled to your own opinion. I also think you have it completely wrong. I agree it is horrible that all of those people died, but I think what Hitler did was worse. How can you justify trying to wipe out an entire race of people and act like you are better than they are, particularly when you are a member of that race as well.
America did not attack anyone in WW II until it declared war in December after being attack at Pearl Harbor by Japan. I feel very bad about the civilians, particularly the children that suffered from the bombs, but I do not pity the Japanese government one bit. How someone could be so cruel as to support the cruelty that was done to innocent people in that war I will never understand.
About Americans trying to rationalize what our leaders have done, we realize they made some mistakes, no one is denying that or saying America is perfect.
I also think other countries should cut America a little slack. We tend to be forced into the role of helping others, so we are bound to make enemies. I would think some people would be grateful for the good we have done. In case you haven't noticed, America is in more debt than any other country because we go overseas and help those who desperately need it, and most of the time we don't make them pay us back.

Considering what the Japanese army was doing to their prisoners and the places that they occupied would also show the other side of the story. It stopped a lot of killing that the Japanese were responsible for doing. How many other invasions and wars were stopped by the demonstration of power? It was a touch choice. While any loss of life is regretable there has been much compensation by our gov't and the people who were involved in the 'atrocity'. Unprovoked killing is a much worse crime than prevention of continued killing.
Hitler's crime of genocide is one the worste crimes against humanity.
You have to look at the reasoning behind the act before you judge. We didn't drop bombs on Japan because we hated them. We prevented further atrocities by an Army we had a very hard time stopping otherwise.

I completely disagree with the analogy to Hitler. Hitler was trying to wipe out an entire ethnic group, as well as other smaller groups that got in the way. That was genocide. I agree that the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was a terrible tragedy, but you have to realize that this was not an attempt to wipe out the Japanese..
The Jews in the Holocaust were a scapegoat. They were a small minority easily picked out and easily picked on. The Japanese were the instigators of that portion of the war, having fired the first shot.
America stopped assault when the Japanese surrendered. Hitler would not have stopped until his ethnic cleansing was complete.
I agree that higher death tolls from American assaults could be justifcation of a comparison of Truman to Hitler, but even that's not there.
These are all terrible tragedies and I don't agree with all the decisions made, but it's obvious that you're just trying to push your own agenda here.

Kinda makes you wonder why the A Bomb wasn't dropped on Germany? But I digress.
To answer your question, I believe that genocide is the worse war crime ever. Still, crimes against women and children have to rank next to deliberate, systematic attempts to exterminate entire Races of people.
Pray for peace.

Oh I agree with you one hundred percent! Last year there was this amazing and moving story about it, I cried, but not so much as there going to be a murmur this year. Yes I urge everyone to stop wars, nuclear arms and countless unnecessary wars that don't solve anything but leave destruction and death in their wake. If we could all unite together to say:No more! Our old war veterans ask us every year: Please no more!

Hmm... how many more people would have been killed if we invaded? It's called the lesser of two evils.
