Hi! I adopted a pom mix from our local shelter a week ago. At first when I'd take him out for a walk he'd go crazy if he saw another dog; barking, lunging, all that jazz. Now that he's gotten to know a few dogs he does great on the approach and seems happy and eager to see them. But after they've played for a few minutes and it's time to continue with the walk he goes back to his old ways. Obedience training will hopefully help things, but we don't start for a few more weeks. What can I do until then so that other dog owners don't think my new little one is a bad dog?

Since you know he does this you need to be ready before you leave. Remember you are the pack leader when you say it is time to go it is time to go. Choose a command like let's go and say it and go. If he tries to bark correct him and keep moving. Since he is a small do it should be easier to do. Do not give him attention or affection when he does this. Take a business like attitude, you expect him to follow. Dogs are good and reading their human.

Oh, deficient you. How lengthy have been you ignoring it for? How lengthy are you all set to disregard it for? The final bastion of a pigheaded puppy is its voice. You can deprive it of meals, tie it up for per week, educate it a lesson, and the darn factor will nonetheless bark. It is the final, and toughest, factor to give up. Because what else are you able to do? You cannot bodily give up a puppy from barking. Of all behaviour tendencies, this one is truthfully the toughest to vary. Have you ever met the ones individuals who simply do not give up speakme? Reading your query, it truthfully feels like you're by accident giving him tons of rewards for barking - the toys and chewies, the walks, the awareness, the treats across the condo. These are matters that he will get whilst he barks plenty, proper? Reconsider your timing. Give him well matters whilst he's already being quiet, now not whilst he's noisy. And aside from that, ignoring is your most effective alternative. That, or get him a playmate. Don't proper him vocally; he's going to consider you favor his speakme, and can preserve. Remember he is a dog. And, I'm afraid, a few puppies simply under no circumstances close up.
