I'm trying to beat a spot in a game ... and not having luck. I looked up a cheat that said "Start the game with the -DEVMODE command line". How do I do that?
I've tried adding \-DEVMODE (and various iterations) to the shortcut target, but it doesn't let me save the change ... I've also tried running from the command line (dos) prompt and that doesn't work either.

I'm trying to run far cry. If change the shortcut target to
"C:\Program Files\BoontyGames\Far Cry\Bin32\FarCry.exe" -DEVELOPER
It will save ... it still doesn't work. :(

The direct way is with Command Prompt (check under Start > Programs >Accessories). Change directory to the path were the program is located and run the program with the argument.

An easier way (paticularly if want to run it more than once):

Copy past a new shortcut onto the desktop. If you don't already have one on the desktop, you can copy from Start > Programs and paste onto the desktop. Rename the shortcut to something like "Game Dev Mode".

Now right click on the shortcut and select properties.

Under the shortcut tab add the command line arguments to the Target AFTER THE " (this maybe were you ran into trouble.)

So this is what the Target field would look like (using a game I have a simular setup with):

"C:\Program Files\Activision\Star Trek - Armada\Armada.exe" -DEVMODE

It sounds like you do not have administrator privileges with the ID that you are using. You should be able to enter it into the command line in your shortcut.

In your shortcut properties, for the command line, after you have the rest of it, leave a space and then type in the -DEVMODE
What game are we talking about?
