How does this correspond with the LDS gathering tithes or the collection plate on Sundays?
Is it a different root?

More specifically, religion is the root of all evil. Without religion, evil is not a word.

Intelligence will decipher this one for you. IF you had dropped a ring in a fire worth a million dollars, will you dive in and get it? Fire is hot and you will get burned, right? You must figure out down to detail what the concept is... some folks just see words and give simple explanation to themselves. Money is the root of all evil ... that's true and should be separated from church in just this moment. Money is used for evil as it is the most demanded item on earth. Just that demand makes it a big "factor" in the evil in the world. Because we buy things that can make us happier or protect us from being sad.... we over value money because we want control of our lives thru it. In tithes and collection plates, this is an offering to the lord and is a good thing as you are giving up your "demand to control your life" ...for the Lord. Small sacrifice if you ask me. The proverb is used to warn against misuse of money, not saying the systems of monetary exchange or even capitalism is wrong. Look at other things that seem more "valueable" or "priceless" than money... such as diamonds, gold, or rare items. There is more evil in just that involvement. Give to the Lord as a sacrifice within your faith... even if the leader of your church has a new car next week. Play your part and keep faith. Good luck and God Bless.

It is the worship of money that is the root of evil. Not money it's self.

1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

It is when people put their faith in money and not in God, that is when it becomes evil.

Your are supposed to give 10% of your earnings to the church.

Numbers 18:26 Thus speak unto the Levites, and say unto them, When ye take of the children of Israel the tithes which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then ye shall offer up an heave offering of it for the LORD, even a tenth part of the tithe.

Where do you people get these Ideas from?? Oh yeah.. from satan. If you read you bible like you are supposed to , you woud know these things. Satan is the author of confusion. where as Jesus is the way the truth and the life.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

No. It's still all evil. But they want you to think that because it is in the church it is free of the outside evils and the tainted hands it has gone through. All money is the root of all evil until people realize not to be corrupt with money. How not to buy and sell others with money, buy and sell weapons, money is just money but it is the greed of many. The greed in which they need more by any means and the greed of some others that do not have any and need some at any cost.

Money can be the root of all evil. But when they are passing the plate on Sundays they are looking for money to do good with, so good over rules the bad.

No ;it is the LOVE of money that is the root of all evil.
Love of it depicting that it is your god.
To love something so much that all you do is try to get it and think about it all the time.
That which is foremost in your mind is your god.

If you wish to continue with the tithes, you remain in the old testament.
You are supposed to be in the new testament.
New covenant inaugurated in the Blood Of Jesus. 2000 years ago.
Old out, New in.
The pastor is not a levitical priest, he has no right whatsoever to collect tithes.
We are not under the levitical law. We are under Grace.
The priesthood changed, Jesus is the new High priest.
The high priest of the new covenant ( will )
When the priesthood changes there is by necessity a change in the law.

How dare you, the church would never take and stock pile the money you gave them, they use that money for good use like building the Vatican and shearing only when the media is around, so money is evil and all of it should be given to the church or go to a casino same difference
All has the same root the tree is evil and the root is god

It is the love of money that can lead a Christian down the wrong path as 1 Timothy 5:10 states: "For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."
Money itself is not evil for money is essential for people to supply the things necessary for survival. But if making money or acquiring riches becomes the most important thing in a persons life, where will that put worship of God?
Regarding tithing, search as you may you will not find Jesus recommending or commending tithing for his followers. When Jesus sent out his apostles and disciples to do missionary work from house to house and city to city, even unto the ends of the world, he made no provisions for their support through tithing. (Matt. 10:1-42; 28:19, 20; Luke 9:1-10; 10:1-17; Acts 1:8) Jesus came to fulfill and put an end to the Law covenant and all of its ordinances and through his death, he accomplished that and at the same time his poured-out blood set in operation a new covenant with superior arrangements. (Col. 2:14-16) Under this new system Christians are under new commandments that are summed up in total or complete love. They must therefore consecrate, not a tenth part, but everything they possess to God’s service and for the aid and comfort of good-will strangers among them.—Matt. 22:36-40. As Christians we are free from the law of Moses. Circumcision, tithing and other commandments are no longer for us. Therefore, must you tithe? The answer is No. Paul said: “Let each one do just as he has resolved in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” So give cheerfully, give freely, give liberally, but any law that says you “must” is in excess of the Scriptures.—2 Cor. 9:7; 1 Cor. 4:6.
When churches make tithing a law, which is no longer a biblical requirement, they put financial hardship on their members.
So again, why is tithing not required of Christians?
Under the Law given to ancient Israel, tithing was a means of supporting the tribe of Levi and caring for needy ones. (Leviticus 27:30; Deuteronomy 14:28, 29) The sacrificial death of Jesus abolished the Law and its tithing requirement. (Ephesians 2:13-15) In the early congregation, the pattern was for each Christian to give according to his means and as he resolved in his heart. (2 Corinthians 9:5, 7)

You have misrepresented your thought.. it is "The love of mney is the root of all evil." That puts a complete different light on the subject. We are now into the realm of greed..But wonder about your statement about the LDS church and its tithing.. What church do you know of that does not tithe?

the bible doesnt say that.(1 Timothy 6:10) 10 For the love of money is a root of all sorts of injurious things, and by reaching out for this love some have been led astray from the faith and have stabbed themselves all over with many pains.

but of course some would like you to think money the villian and then they can take and make it all better.
