I was outside for more than 6 hours in the sun yesterday, and I should've known better and put on some sunblock. But of course I didn't, and now both of my arms and the back of my neck are a tomato red color and they stick whenever I touch the burns. So how do I get rid of this (especially the pain!), quickly and/or easily?

First of all, you need to take some Ibuprofin (if you're not allergic to it). It will help reduce the swelling and pain.

Second, take a very cool to cold bath--this will help reduce the damage that the burn did to your skin. It will also help with the swelling, pain, and redness. If you can't take a bath, get some ice and rub it on the burned areas.

Third, drink plenty of clear fluids and make sure you're keeping hydrated.

If you have blisters, do NOT pop them. This will not only hurt, but it can leave bad scars. Blisters mean you have at least second degree burns. Not good!

If you have a lot of blisters, especially if you have a fever or the blisters have pus in them, you need to immediately go to the doctor. You probably have sun poisoning. This is very dangerous and can make you very sick.

If your skin is peeling, do not "help" it along...don't peel your skin. That also can cause very bad scarring (I have a big scar on my nose from peeling it as a kid when I had a sunburn--I'm now 35 and the scar is still there!).

I understand your pain. I'm suffering the effects of the sun now too. I've tried all kinds of home remedies and nothing seems to relieve my pain except aloe with lidocaine in it. There are two brands I like. Banana Boat has a spray king called Sooth-a-caine but if you apply too much it leaves a blue residue. The other brand is a gel called Ocean Potion ICE. It is also blue, but it is a gel so it can be rubbed in. I am currently applying it about every two hours and I haven't started itching and the pain is minimal. Along with that keep on loose clothing and take slightly cool showers. Good luck!

Keep your skin cool to reduce your sunburn Moisturize your skin, thoroughly and often, to relieve your sunburn Use an aloe-based moisturizer for aloe's natural healing effects, Stay hydrated to help your body get rid of a sunburn Drink lots of water to keep your body hydrated and cool Don't further irritate your skin. Wear loose-fitting, gentle clothing (cotton is best) to keep your already tender skin from being rubbed more raw and irritated then it already is.

The good ole fashion way. Soak in the tub in a vinegar bath. Warm water, it will pull the sting right out of you. Hurts like hell, but I have found that it actually does help. Good luck.

I usually put moisturizing lotion in the freezer (to get it cold) and then squirt A LOT on my skin and rub it on lightly, don't rub it in too much or it'll hurt.

Keep it as moisturized as possible. Aloe gel is good to use. As well as moisturizing lotion helps. If you keep it moisturized it will help prevent it from peeling. Good Luck!
