3. WELL BUILT and big (except the ranger) so if the kid gets into a accident good chance he will not be killed if its just a head on

NO
1. they are BIG so if you do get into a accidnet he/she wont be killed and may get away with just a few scratches but theirs a better chance he/she will hurt someone else more severly

YES. Teenagers drive like maniacs on occasion...it is unavoidable. Pickup trucks roll over VERY easily and are not very safe in the eventual crash. According to an article I read on FORBES.COM the Ford Ranger 4x4 is actually one of the least safe vehicles sold in America. It Rolls over in a third of the accidents it is involved in. Most teenagers do not wear seat belts when out of view of their parents. During a roll over accident this leads to Death...or worse.

For that reason alone, all Trucks AND SUVs should be ruled out for a first car for a teenager. What a teen should learn in is a bigger slower vehicle that sits low to the ground and is very safe. Perfect car recomendations are a late 90s Ford Crown Victoria...Buick Park Avenue or LeSabre. Solid, 4 Door Sedans that are CHEAP to buy, very reliable, and are among the safest vehicles on the road in America!

Great Question...Remember that Safety is paramount in a first car...because most likely it WILL get Crashed within 18 months.

I would recommend a Ford Ranger that is 2 wheel drive and a 4 cyl. Also a stick shift would be the thing for a young kid. Rangers are in general a tough truck that can take abuse and don't tear up so easy. I have had 3 on them sense I have been driving and still own one.

Wow! There's not really a yes or no answer for this one. You need to determine what the drivers' needs are and then check to see if the truck you are looking at meets those needs. You'll need to consider the age of the vehicle and its general condition. Have things been looked after? Is it a new Ford truck that you are considering? It is advisable to check wwhat your insurance company will charge to insure this vehicle too. Don't just buy a vehicle that you like the looks of - make sure it will suit the driver and that his/her comfort and safety are considered.

it all depends on the truck,,and which engine it has in it,,they are pretty good trucks,,just remind the young driver that when on a slippery road that these trucks dont get good traction in the rear,,and they will get away from you,,otherwise they are OK trucks,,i own a repair shop,,and i have some customers that have them,,they like them,,i hope this helps,,good luck with it.

first i love "deltechs" answer lol. (chevy lover) now to your question.. it really doesnt matter what they have for a first car(i learned how to drive in a lifted k-5 blazer 4x4) what matters is the maturity level of your kid age does not = maturity as we all know. i dont recomend a brand new vehicle yes they are more dependable however your kid wont learn anything form it accept how to ask for gas money.. it builds character to break down a few times and helps give you repect for your vehicle..

Yes! Fords SUCK, they're boring and ugly, noisy, shoddily assembled, they need repairs all the time and they're always recalled for something. Fords are bad for anyone, don't buy.
