These so-called "Christians" don't understand the first amendment, which says, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..". The second half clearly means that the govermnent can't prevent you from going to the church of your choice, whatever that church may be. It's the first half that people don't get. It means that the government can't establish a state church and require everyone to convert to it, or pass any law that is biased toward one church's views. That is separation of church and state, and it's more for the benefit of the churches than it is for the state. It gives people the right to worship as they choose, without interference from the government.
Now, regarding gay marriage, the proposed ban is a perfect example of a blatant violation of the First Amendment. There is no legal or ethical basis for it; it's entirely on religious grounds, and not even all Christians agree on it. It's based on the Old Testament, and Jesus Himself said that the Old Testament rules such as "an eye for an eye" no longer apply. This would be a law "respecting an establishment of religion", and therefore would be unconstitutional.
If your church refuses to recognize gay marriage, fine, they have that right, but the government does NOT have the right to take sides in a religious dispute. Again, that's as much for the benefit of the churches as it is for anyone else. How would you Christians feel if Congress passed a Muslim law? How would you Protestants feel if they passed a Catholic law? I could go on and on, but you should see the point. Separation of church and state and freedom of religion go hand in hand -- you can't have one without the other -- and they're for everyone's benefit.

The Bible states; "If a mans sleeps with a man or a woman sleeps with a woman, it is an abomination." It further states that man shall replenish the earth with progeny... Apparently the plan is for the survival of civilizations. Which does not include those incapable of following the greater plan. If a union is established to replenish the population, where would the recognition of gays come into the picture..There is no functionality here. Therefore, they have no need to be recognized in a marriage..

This is an interesting point. Well, as a christian I believe that marriage is a holy commitment made before God. The bible tells us that man shall not lay with man as he does women and so on...so is IS against the bible for gays to marry or be sexually active.
But other people...That really is a good question...
I guess it comes down to this. If they believe in God then why don't they believe in the messiah??? If they don't believe in God then why do they need to get married in the christian fashion???
That is a really bad answer but I am sure you can follow my logic. If you are a none believer then why make the commitment is a religious fashion???

Actually in the bible Christians married people of other religions and taught them our beliefs. Marriage is a religious ceremony joining a man and a woman. How can a gay person get married if they are doing the thing that is an atrocity to that religion? i don't believe gay people are wrong I just think that the sexual gay act is wrong, the bible calls it an abomination. I do think that people should be allowed certain civil rights if they are anothers caregiver or supporter, though.

In order to carry on as humans, we have to procreate. Men and men cannot have babies and neither can women and women. God considers the acts involved (Gay sex) an abomination as much as having sex with animals. The punishment was just about the same when Moses' law was the law. Of course sins are forgiven now but sin is still sin. Gays can be Christians but not marry in the Christian Church. They can get married in a civil court for all I care but God cannot condone sin.

The definition of marriage is a union between a MAN AND WOMAN! It's absurd for people to argue about it. It would be like me saying it's not right for me to not be able to qualify for an African-American scholarship because I'm white.
I'm all for gay people having the same rights as the rest of us. I think the government should come up with some other kind of union between them that would give them all the same rights of a married couple.

Look gays have their own church`s and all that goes along with that and they have a choice of bibles considering how many versions there are out there and before and after the Jesus era homosexuality was just as popular as it is today, but I don`t think the gays then felt the need to go around advertising that they were Queer or they just came out of the closet,or felt this uncontrollable urge to marry, its not about protection legally for their mate, they can do that by going to a lawyer and signing papers,I think its more along the lines of "Look at me I`m Sandra Dee"

In there bible there is a verse that says a man should not lay with another man and a woman should not not lay with another woman. But marriage between a man and a woman is a special thing. It is really the whole goal other then dying in Christianity. The family unit is supposed to be the power of the church.

Marriage means Union- a Consummated Union. Same sex couples cannot Consummate a Union by bringing fort children so they are Barren, un able to be Married in Gods eyes. But if they are not concerned ,with what God thinks why would they worry about getting Married, in Holy Matrimony ?makes no since to me.

Christians believe that marriage is between a man and a woman.
Any other combination is a civil union.
