you may need to check out the small print on this one. I was in the same position not so long ago, and I did it for a friend who subsequently told me was in dispute with his landlord over damp in his flat. his way of making sure the landlord did something about it was to withold his rent, to the tune of one thousand pounds! He did a bunk eventually and the landlord called me. I actually laughed when he told me and I told him that he had no chance of recouping the money as I was skint! He did eventually get his money back from my supposed friend, but I am not sure where you stand legally. If you don't have the money, technically you can't pay. So what will happen? Go to court? Its a comparatively small amount of money and he would probably have to go through the small claims court to get it. Go to your local citizens advice bureau before you do anything and get all the information you can before you communicate with them again. Get everything in writing as well......just in case......

What a horrid landlord and selfish daughter, the landlord should have informed you the first time your daughter missed her payment to him and I would say as he didn't you have some rights and should go to the CAB or get one of those free half hour consultations with a solicitor, loads of them do it and are usually advertised in your local phone directory or yellow pages, your daughter was so awful not admitting her debt to you as soon as it started, she seems to have had you for a right mug, don't spend sleepless nights over this, go get some advice tomorrow and hopefully it will be the best advice you can hope for, good luck and hope everything works out soon.

Why would the Land lord let you know that your daughter was late in her payments??? If you sign your name you owe the money. But,I would go after my daughter too! She needs to learn that everyone has pay bills.

I would phone the landlord and explain the situation. I would offer to pay in installments over a period of time. I would also tell your daughter to help pay the installments. If the landlord is being awkward let him know that is all you can do otherwise take you to court which would take time and more expense. That is what i would do in your situation.

whare the hell is your daughter, make her pay it, tell her you will pay each week the same amount *** her. work out a payment plan, then pay regulary, then when she has paid him, she can pay you ,dont help her any other way untill this debt is paid off, tell the land- lord that's the only way he will get his money back, dont give into her, let him go to the police if she refuses otherwise she will never learn, dont be a mug for your daughter please.

That's is why they have guarantors. He still has to pay the mortgage. You really need to speak to your daughter, and the CAB. You could try and arrange a repayment plan with the landlord, however he or she will probably take it to the small claims court.

You need to see a solicitor or call in at your CAB tomorrow.....
As you were guarantor I think it ends up being your debt. Check what you signed when you agreed to be the guarantor of the debt.

Legally, yes. From this day forward, do not guarantee any one's payments. You never know who is going to leave you holding the bag.
