Sorry, but happiness isn't supposed to stay. It is a gift to appreciate. You need the bad times to appreciate the good. If you were happy all the time, you wouldn't know you were being happy, because you'd have nothing to compare it too.
The happiness that comes from within, however, is a bit different and is what the Dalai Llama talks about when he says that the purpose of Life is to be Happy.
Everybody can try to work on that - it means you accept the bad times and realize they won't last and look for something to learn from them.
Accept, don't judge; don't compare and keep growing spiritually and mentally is my advice.
Often people look for happiness and when they think they are happy it is often an illusion. That is when you rely on other people or substances for the happiness. The you get into a habit - you want to be constantly entertained by others or become addicted to something. We all know that is never going to work!
If you work on your concepts from within and change your thinking so that you can be content with whatever comes your way, you get a much longer lasting and real type of happiness. Of course, something devastating can make you really sad even then - such as pa death or some kind of disaster like the tsunami that killed so many. But that sadness will not corrode your inner happiness.
Sadness is allowed for self-growth as it is based on genuine concern for other living things. Unhappiness is more selfish and fleeting and should be erased whenever you sniff it out. Unhappiness is linked to negative thinking, so first step is to always try to think positively. It is amazing how that becomes a habit quickly, and a very good one!
(Also beware of other people who are always negative because they have made that their bad habit. Stay away from them because negativity is contagious. It is fine giving someone a shoulder to cry on, but if they are constantly complaining and moaning, take a break from them.)
Positive thinkers should make you feel better too.
General rule of thumb, bit hard to put in to practice though, is "If someone is always bringing you down and you don't feel good around them, move on. If someone makes you feel good, nurture them."
Good Luck!

HI BigCatDiary!
Happiness is like a flash. It does not last long. We have to look for the moments and treasure them. You are not alone. Try to have people around you that will help you be happier. Your mate, friends, family. THose things help too.
Remember you are not alone. Those who say they are happy all the time are lying. Just like couples who say they never fight or discuss. I guess that could be true if one lives in one house and the other lives in another. It just does not happen.
Be happy and enjoy life. It goes so fast and we are just passing through. God Bless!!!!

Pundits say that one is preprogrammed by their DNA to be at a certain level of happiness, no matter what.
So, instead of attempting to capture the unattainable happiness you so vehemently desire, settle for acceptance of your current level of happiness.
That doesn't mean that you can't find satisfaction in life.
Work hard. Give of yourself. Be tolerant of others.
You'll be satisfied. That's enough.

Happiness is a chore, if it were that easy then everyone would be happy. Happiness you have to find because misery loves company and won't leave till you find happiness.

Just think positively I suppose. But you can't be happy all the time! It's unhealthy not to release your emotions, rather than bottling them up.

You must endure unhappiness to know what true happiness is, grasshopper. No one is happy all the time. That is an unreasonable expectation for your life.
