Speak with your college counselor. I am pretty sure that you will need and/or want a computer of your own.
For video... go MAC.

In a few years the Mac will be outdated. You already have a PC. Save the money and buy the Mac when you go to College.

Use it for the school books, since you mentioned the aid only covering enrollment. You can do your work in the college library...don't waste in on a computer that you will need to upgrade later.

ummmm i personally would wait.....becuz you never know.... so unless you get a job or something i would save it, but thats just me.
im a little confused, are you in college yet? and if not then how do u know you are covered by financial aid?? well anyway if its your first year and your covered (i am going thru the same thing) i would save it because next year you might not get as much....

Why not spend half on college and invest the other half? Investments will make you more $$... go to your bank and ask to speak with a financial advisor. It shouldn't cost you anything. You are never too young to start investing.

College savings. You will regret it in the long run if you spend it on a lap top.
