My neighbor says I can substitute one full cup of lemon juice mixed with half-a-cup of baking soda, is this true?

no you will have a mess, the baking soda will foam, its actually a good remedy for a slow running drain. Go buy the juice.

Limes are much more sour than lemons, and I cant see what baking soda would do other than alter the recipe in other ways you may not be taking into consideration. I would say you need to just go out and buy some lime juice. If anything use lemon juice, but don't add baking soda, and just know the flavor will be slightly altered because of the switch.

Use 3/4 cup of lemon juice mixed with 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar or rice wine vinegar. This will keep the sweetness at the right level but cut the acidity a little. Don't use regular wine vinegar. Too acidic.

Lime Juice has a distinctly different flavor! Limes are more sour than lemons so it's best not to substitute.

Yes, pretty much. Lime is less acidic, but slight sweeter in taste. Lime can sometimes be substitued directly by lemon without major, discernible difference.

Im not sure, but if you really want your recipe to come out nice your best bet is to buy the lime juice its inexpensive and ensure that your recipe comes out great.
