Are you a Christian, Shellshell? Ok, enough said to anyone who asks. I am going out on a limb and believe you live in a bible belt. Your relationship with God is no one's business but yours. Your conscience is your guide. Look at the next person who asks those really personal questions and say, "Why on earth would you ask something so personal?!" When they say they are concerned about your soul, tell them that you are as well and walk away or close that door. Keep reading, keep praying and don't forget God exists. You may find a church that meets your needs when you least expect it.

OK.. Whew.. I like your question.. here goes....
I am so glad you believe in God and in Heaven/Hell.
I think you are right you don't HAVE to go to church to be a christian.
I don't agree that people shouldn't preach. I think that preachers can be valuable teachers. I think though that they should be well schooled and not just tele evangelizing.
I sometimes get frustrated with enthusiastic christians that harp.. but I promise they do mean well.. it's just human nature to be pushy. And if they say that you are going to hell for not following god's word the way they do then they are the ones sinning and will have to answer for that.
People say you are not reading enough.. hmm ok.. well do you think that you are reading enough.. what does your inner self say? Follow your heart on this chica and you will be fine.
When people ask me what religion I am I tell them that I am a non-denominational Christian...I dont belong to a catholic, episcopalian or other Christian Church.. I belong to a church that accepts all people no matter what...
Make sense?
Check out our church if you like.. you sound like a person that might like it, if you like :) No pressure...

You may believe in God, but do you believe that Jesus died for the sins of the world? You can accuse me of preaching, but you own words tell me something is amiss. If you disobey God's word, yes, you are sinning, so why bother reading the Bible if you are just going to disobey it anyway. I'm not talking about a religion, I'm talking about a relationship with the living God. While you are here on earth you are preparing for heaven. Part of that preparation is getting to know God better. One way is to spend time with those of like faith, going to worship and fellowship.

It sounds as if your are nondenominational, which is find. I am Baptist but have several friends that are nondenominational. What religion you are is NOT what is important here. What IS important is that you are saved. God's word tells us that we should "Remember the Sabbath day and keep it Holy". He wants us in church. He wants us to read His word daily. He wants us to pray and talk (not preach) to others about Him. He chooses those who are to preach not us. I am a Christian and would love to tell you that I do all the things that I told you God wants us to do. However, I fall short on these things. These are things I need to work on. Be careful. Believing in God, Heaven, and Hell are not enough. You must be saved!

Well your definately not a Christian. Those people are trying to help you when they tell you those things. We are supposed to read our bibles every day.
2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
We are supposed to pray continuously.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing.
You are to attend church.
Exodus 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
You are sinning when you are not obeying God. I love it when people talk to me about God, because I love God.
IF you have not accepted Jesus as your savior, you are a lost person living a life with satan being your leader. If you are not with God and His son Jesus 100% then you are with satan 100%
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
We are go praise God always, and not just once in a while.
Psalms 56:10 In God will I praise his word: in the LORD will I praise his word.
Psalms 57:7 My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise.

Why do you feel the need to place a name on your beliefs?
I love God with all my heart, yet do not attend any church or follow any major religion.
I carry my church around in my heart 24/7 and always strive to be the best I can be.
So who do you think God would prefer:
Someone like me who loves God and all his creation 24 hours a day; or someone who lies, cheats, disrespects and abuses his fellow man, then goes to church on a sunday, says his confession and goes back to his lying and cheating?
You see it is not that tricky at all. Religions were written by men who wished to exert control over other men. Review a good many religions, find out what they all agree on, accept that as the truth and discard the rest as man made garbage.
God bless
Love and light

You believe in God? good. It is one thing to believe in Him and another to receive Him in your heart as your personal Lord and Savior.
When you receive Him you need to be thought so that you will also grow. When a baby is born, that baby should be fed. The baby cannot grow without being fed by the mother. You are a baby and you need to be fed. Don't continue to feed yourself in the house. Go to where the Bible is preached and lived. If you are serious God will show you the right place where you can grow spiritually.Read Acts2-42 There you will see that that is what we are to do.

In my opinion you sound like a luke warm Christian.
non - denominational is fine, but it's relationship with Christ that counts. You say you believe in God - wouldn't you praise Him to the highest Heaven with every breath? Doesn't that include sharing the love and message of salvation in Christ? And it can be with a caring Church community.
I'd say you need to ask youself these questions when you are prepared for God to work in your life - give it a shot dearie. You might find life and find it more abundantly than you seem to care here and now.
Once you decide to have true relationship with Him - it will be very very easy to hold an intelligent conversation with those skeptics who are bothering you. :) And do read the bible - nothing explains your question like the scripture does - and you will learn more and more about your faith than you can possilby even imagine - but not if you are luke warm.
One more thing - pray for them and for yourself - no one can help you with these questions better than Jesus can.

You sound like you are on the right track. You are a free thinker and maybe that's what you should call your religion. I personally don't believe, but I do like the way that you do. I have a suspicion that someday soon you will also rid yourself of the notion of heaven and hell. (Why would a god need such nonsensical places). I predict that you will declare yourself Agnostic in the days to come.
Cheers!

do not look for your worth spiritually in the eyes and mouths of other people. if you are good with God and with your own spirituality that is what matters. don't ever stop wondering...search always. have ideas instead of beliefs. ideas are easy to change and shape as you grow and learn...beliefs cause people to feel that they are not allowed to question and they don't grow spiritually. jesus himself was this way and yet in a big way religion has killed the spirit of what he tried to teach. no matter if you believe if he was god's son or not, he was a pretty cool guy that shook the world in such a way that we stil talk about him and his life and death. but don't get so caught up in his death that you lose out on his life....that is where you can learn something. good luck and good question.
