Definitely. It would be very bad mannered not to after they have taken the time and effort to prepare it for you. If you have baked or bought something in preparation for their visit just serve both, giving them a choice. I think it's lovely when someone goes to that kind of effort. Also if they give you advance warning it saves you a lot of hard work, which is why it's done in the first place.

If someones brings cake, the protocol is to serve it to them.. If you save the cake until the next day is good but no longer fresh. If someone brings a bottle of wine, and you have selected a wine to go with the dinner they were invited for, you thank them for the wine, and explain that you will enjoy drinking it however you have already selected a wine to go with the meal.

Yes, because it is better to share what you are given. If you take the cake you are pretty much taking something and giving something you already had, obviously if you still hadn't eaten your cake you didn't like it very much. haha. So, share the new, better cake with the person who gave you it. I hope that's iced tea....

If I make something to take to someone's house, I make it with the intention that they are going to serve it. But what the hostess does is totally up to them.

The guest might feel offended if you don't serve the cake they brought.

Oh this is like an etiquette question right? I think yes, you should bring out your food, as well as your guest's cake... thats what i would do anyway.

Of course you should, it's called caring and sharing! Just give them the choice, that is all .... that is called being a good host. I mean people bring a bottle to imbibe on the night don't they?

Good Question. I probably would since they brought it so you wouldn't have to go to extra work providing something for the tea.
