I'm currently serving. I've got 6 years behind me now, and I'm on my way to my 20.
Mate, I've got to tell you that being in the service isn't for everyone. It's a hard lifestyle at time, one that puts all sorts of constraints on every aspect of your life. One that will expose you to physical, mental and emotional challenges like you've never seen. One that will test every limit of your endurance.
It has a lot of positives, but there is one thing you should know: no one knows if he's cut out for this until he puts his name on the dotted line and spends some time in the uniform. You'll never find out if you're cut out for this or not just from reading answers like this.

I am and I love it. Think about it this way. If you joined you would be able to retire in 6 years. Crazy! I joined at 17 and will 20 years of service I can retire. BEFORE I am 40. That is something only basketball players do! Plus I got $40,000 for college but they are giving me my RN so that money is going to go to all the extra stuff I want to do and I will get a little pay check while I go to college after I get out. I can use it while I am in too. They pay you a little extra when you have kids, they adjust your pay when you move to more expensive area like Hawaii. They give you a raise every year and now 600 each year for new uniforms. They pay for your college while your in. It was the best decision I have ever made. It can get frustrating when you don't have a lot of rank but if you do the right thing and figure out the politics you can get what you want and need. They have people who's jobs are to defend you so if something happens that you don't feel is right you can have them repremanded. It happens all the time. I love it. It takes self disciplineand a lot of dedication. You need to love what you do butjust a couple of years and your out...why not?

Yes I am in the mililtary. I was in the AF for almost 5 years but it just wasnt my thing so I switched over to the Army.
The AF is really relaxed more like the corporate world. The Army you have a lot more PT and training to go to. I am now a Army MP(military police) I have attended Airborne school (that was cool) and I can honestly say I love my job and wouldnt want to be doing anything other then this.
Oh just to let you know even though you got it from other people in here. Your not to old. I had guys in my class that had retired from the military in the 80's and now being age 52 they were coming back into the reserve. You are still young enough to come in.

I was in the Army. I'm only 23, and I'm a disabled veteran. If you wanted to do it, you would have been able to cut it. Not every job in the military requires a hard-charging personality, so there is a fit for every type of person (besides the extraordinarily lazy and those that have a serious problem with authority).

I joined the army at 30. From day one, the drill sergeants and other recruits didn't think i would make it through. I graduated as honor grad and the highest pt score. If you want to, it is no problem. All you have to do is give it all you got. Im still in and am currently in iraq as we speak. I love my job, and i do my job, im an mp and wouldn't trade it for anything. Sure, it is dangerous, but i love what i do for my country and i love serving with all of my fellow soldiers from the us and coalition forces.

Actually you are not too old to join the limit in almost all branches is 35 to 37.
I and most of my family and husband's family are or have been involved in the military.
If you have a 4 year college degree go in as an Officer.

I was in the Navy. 4 1/2 yrs. I worked on the flight deck of aircraft carriers. Hard work but loved it. I have been to about 20 different countries. It taught me allot about how good America really is. People take for granted the freedoms we have. I would HIGHLY recommend it.

I was on submarines for 20 years. I liked it. They're small enough so you know everyone on board. And there were fun times. I don't know if I could do what the other branches do. Bad enough to have to worry about the water when you're boring holes in the ocean, but to have bullets, grenades, missiles, and booby traps to worry about...just too much for me. At least when the end comes on the sub, chances are it's really quick.

Best thing I ever did.
So what excuse are going to be telling yourself for the rest of your life? Grow a sack and try it for 3 years. You can join up to 35 I think.
