I started playing music fairly young. At first it was because my dad had exposed me to a lot of Latin music, Mariachi and Latin Jazz. But when I specialized in guitar and bass there were four players that really drew me in: Chet Atkins (country, jazz, cl;assical stylist), Joe Pass (jazz stylist), Andre Segovia (classical genious) and Django Rheinhardt (the king of European Gypsy Jazz).

As a result of this quite varied set of musical influences I continue to listen to and play all kinds of music. I feel lucky that I have not restricted my music tastes as I see so many others do.

There's a lot of great music out there.

My mom. She studied music in college and could have become a concert pianist had her life gone differently.

She taught piano in our home when I was little so she could stay home with me.

I started taking lessons from her when I was 6. Trouble was, I knew I'd never be as good as she was.

I took lessons from others after that. She's been gone now for 7 years and suffered from Pafrkinson's for many years before finally passing away. I miss the days when I was a little girl and/or a teenager, listening to her play for friends and family.

I don't have a piano anymore, but would like to get one again so I can start playing once more.

Nice question...thank you!

I have a cousin who's about seven years older than me. When I was about four or five, she was playing the violin with her school. She didn't like it because she wanted to play the flute, but I didn't know that. I had no older sibling to look up to, so I looked up to her. I wanted to be just like her, so I gave up piano lessons to learn the violin. Now it's more "my thing," than it ever was hers. I'm really passionate about it.

Hearing classical music ever since I was a baby inspired me to make that beautiful music on the piano and violin!

My dad. Seeing him really being creative taught me something about him. I want to know more about myself and it's also pretty relaxing.
