no more than whenever anyone labels themselves. we all try to fit into some mold of something...

its the people who don't make an attempt to put a label on themselves that usually have the most strength of character.

i will add that there are some people out there who practice wiccan as a religion, my husband has a good friend. she does not call herself a witch in the sense of shock value. please do not judge something you don't first try to understand.

its actually a very "earth" bound religion that sees god in nature. the term "witch" is used but not in the sense that many people think of.

No, it's just a statement about my beliefs and my practices. Does it make people feel cool to profess to being a 'Christian' or a 'Muslim' or an 'Atheist'?

I don't doubt that there are some out there who say they're a witch for the shock value, but I've found that they don't tend to stay on the Path very long, because they discover that there's actual work and research and learning involved.

To insideoutsock - it's amazing the amount of ignorance that still exists in the 21st century. A little research and learning won't kill you. Honest.

Some people are actually are witches, but not the ones who brag about it. Its safe to say that if someone who is teenaged says shes a witch its becuse she is a little twit who thinks she is cool for saying it. Teenaged girls like shock value. blow her a kiss and send her a get real spell.

I don't think 'cool' is the right word. I'd say that they feel like they are 'deeper' in their understanding.

It's the same sort of depth that white supremacists feel when they 'realize' that other races are the reason that they are working cruddy jobs... it's the (insert race here) fault that I work at K-Mart. Similarly, witches like to imagine that they can use magic to hurt people.

Does professing to be a christian, a muslim, a jew, a hindu, a buddhist, an agnostic, an atheist make them feel cool? It's the same thing.. they are showing their system of belief that is all.

Not all of them. When people say they are a witch they are saying that they practice Wicca. They are saying that they do not care if you think they are evil or such. When a friend tells you they are a witch all they want is for you to know them better and for you to accept them.

wiccas and witches dont care about being cool trying to be cool or think they're cool.
it's their way of life they have a real passion for what they do it's not about being cool.

nothing is ever about being cool.
someone asked me if i think im cool just because im an atheist. i dont care about being cool i'll live my life the way i want.

Maybe for some of them, it gives them something to 'belong' to and in a way that may make them feel cool. I'm sure that some of them truly are into what they believe, though.

Whats cool is when you can just say Witch or Wiccan or Pagan and not have to feel you have to hide it.

Otherwise it is just a stament of who you are.
