Morg's is a CROCK. Here's why...
1. No remotely suspected etiological agent.
2. No biologically plausible mode of transmission.
3. The fibers *COULD* be analyzed very easily to determine their content and origin, but so far, no one has bothered releasing the results of these tests.
4. Reports of the "fibers" only came out after the first report of fibers -- two years after the "disease" was first described.
And even the most hyped reports have stated there is no "cure" for this "disease". The CDC is only looking at Morgellons now because of the pressure from the public. Ask any medical professional and they will tell you it is mass hysteria.

Yes I've heard of morgellons and having read a few different bits and pieces on it I have to say I agree with the psycho-somatic diagnosis of most doctors who have encountered it ( and have had their say on the subject ).
The inflammation is probably caused by the patient's itching and / or stress regarding their perceived condition, same with the crawling / biting sensations.
As for the fibres, I've had weird gunk come out of spots in the past, some fibrous depending on how hydrated I was at the time. This is most likely caused by the body's repair fluid (fibrinogen / platelets) forming in an unusual way due to interference from the patient or de-hydration.
Or it could be an allergic reaction to something which has been overlooked due to it being treated as psycho-somatic .
Interestingly, Charles Darwin, one famous (self confessed) hypochondriac reported similar symptoms in his journals.
Probably not much of an answer there as there's not a definite one to give.

To Gumdrop Girl... Not all health care reps are saying its mass hysteria! My mom contracted Lymes Disease while in Door County, WI... Weeks later, she showed signs of Morgellons, without ever having heard of it and a doctor actually told her he thought she had it! She then went to a doctor in Maryland who told her she had it, as well. They actually pulled microscopic insects from the deep layers of her skin! There is no cure yet because they dont know how to treat it yet! There is no cure for AIDS, does that mean it doesn't exist? You think just because you know nothing about it, it doesnt exist????? Pure ignorance on your part!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The medical professionals who are acknowledging that this is a real disease believe it has something to do with Lymes Diesease's effect on your body, making it possible for Morgellons to actually happen. Every disease was new at some point... Just because people don't know much about this does not mean that in five or ten years it is going to be recognized by the entire medical profession. It digusts me that people are so close-minded that they are going to call something a crock just because they have no knowledge on the subject matter.
And only people with a lack of sex??????? Where did you get that????? Maybe you should go please yourself and reevaluate the reported cases.....

I have heard of Morgellans, and yes there is not yet any scientific data that supports it. However, is that any reason to tell all of those poor people that are suffering from a terribly itchy and painful condition that it is all in their head. What is a "CROCK" is that medical professionals will quickly move to diagnosing a psychosomatic condition, rather than completing the due diligence necessary to actually find out what is wrong with the patient.
Have you seen these photographs? http://www.morgellons.org/images.html
Can you say that they are not real? What are they? According to many dermatologists and physicians, they are a figment of people's imagination.

They used to claim Lyme disease was psychosomatic; now more cases of Lyme disease, a spirochete parasite, are being diagnosed in the US than aids per year. They've finally developed accurate tests to discover Lyme infection, even in chronic patients. Morgellons sometime occurs in people who have been previously diagnosed with Lyme disease. Lyme disease weakens your immune system and the antibiotics they put you on for years at a time do the same, so you're susceptible to all sort of other things. Lyme can cause bi-polar and schitzophrenia-like diseases, and the drugs commonly used to treat those have anti-parasitic effects. So who's imagining what?

Yes, they have genetically altered the silk worm to produce cotton. This is what produces the threads in the sores. This cotton can sometimes have these small worms which can get into your skin. The people who have this disease also are tested positive for lyme disease. People who wash their clothes in hot water and bleach as well as take an old fashion antibiotic can get rid of this. The problem with this disease is that genetic engineers who work with cloth are not the same genetic engineers who work with diseases or public health.

Most individuals with this disease report disturbing crawling, stinging, and biting sensations, as well as non-healing skin lesions, which are associated with highly unusual structures. These structures can be described as fiber-like or filamentous, and are the most striking feature of this disease. In addition, patients report the presence of seed-like granules and black speck-like material associated with their skin.
Neurological function severely affected
The peripheral nervous system is often affected by this disease, but the most significant element of the infection, appears to be the effect on the central nervous sytem. Nearly all people with this illness report extreme difficulty with mental concentration and short term memory. Mood disorders, such as depression and Bipolar Disorder, are extremely common in this group of patients, affecting well over half of all individuals reporting symptoms of Morgellons Disease. Parents of children with Morgellons disease report that the majority of these children have ADHD, ODD, mood disorders, or autism. It is estimated that 65% of these children have some form of psychiatric illness, and 10% have an autism spectrum disorder.

The mysterious skin disease is spreading across the country. It's a parasite-like infection that will literally make your skin crawl. Patients say it feels like bugs are crawling all over you. To make matters even worse, many doctors say the victims are delusional.
