Amy,
"Why do many Christians try converting others?"
What are they saying? Are they saying anything like, " If you believe in Jesus Christ you will not go to hell?

Now tell me, if you believed that and there were people that didn't know or were hanging around Religion And Spirituality Boards, why wouldn't you warn others and give them a chance to accept?

I think that it's a part of the board. The Christians are doing what they think they have to do. I admit that some do it for the wrong reasons, but there are those that are actually trying anything to keep you from having to die twice.

It shows that they actually care about you.

We are merely fulfilling Christ's command to us to go forth and spread the Word to all nations and all people. This is called the Great Commission and was given to us by Christ before He ascended into Heaven.

To quote a wonderful song sung by Alison Krause, "I said I wouldn't tell it to a living soul how he brought salvation and he made me whole, but I found I couldn't hide such love as Jesus did impart." When we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we cannot help but share the Good News. Not doing so would be something like seeing a drowning person and being able to help but doing nothing. To a Christian, the gift of salvation is the most precious thing in the Universe and is to be shared with anyone who has ears and will listen.

I hope this helps. May God bless and keep you.

Their religion tells them that they are required to do so, therefore, they believe that they are being good followers by converting people and spreading "the word".

Try not to let it get to you and understand that not everyone has the strength to be different. Most people are more comfortable being sheep and they like to be surrounded by others who believe the same things as they do.

If you let this sort of thing anger you, you are only hurting yourself. I just let them know I've heard all about their religion, I thank them for their concern and I assure them that I have made my choices by my own free will and I am happy with them.

They then usually either ask me about my beliefs or turn and run the other way. :D

I think this:
You only have to hear about JESUS ONCE, to be held Accountable for it by the FATHER.
Tell all of my Bro.'s and Sis.'s in CHRIST, who are trying to Help you, that YOU already HEARD about JESUS. Do it in a Nice Way. That should settle it for them, less there Real Brand New Baby's in Christ.
What is so hard with that? I had to learn it to keep the Religion's off of my back.
Human Being's have the GOD Given Right to Believe what-ever they want to.
It's the Royal Law of Love.
Not my fault if somebody bust's Hell wide-open, after I tell them bout' JESUS. Not my fault.
Hope this helps.

Because Christians believe Christ is the only way. It is out of love that they try to tell people about him, because they believe that if they dont its like watching a friend drown in water and refusing to help

What we, as Christians, Are doing is merely telling others about Christ and what He did for us on the cross. We would not want to see anyone suffering in hell because a Christian did not tell anyone about Jesus. Satan knows that he will lose the ultimate battle, so he wants to take as many as he can with him. I, for one, do not want him to have any souls. There is NO purgatory. When we die we go to either heaven OR hell. That is why we do what we do.

Because they are supposed to spread the message of Jesus, which is a lot like the message of the Buddha except that the Buddha doesn't threaten people who don't follow his teachings with an imaginary lake of fire. Nor does the Buddha ask to be worshipped.

They are commanded to do so. So now us non believers get to be assaulted by well meaning yet faith blinded Christians on a mission.

You would think if they were the one and only true faith they would stand out like a sore thumb by "their fruits" and no preaching would be needed.

Silly me...

They are so weak in their own beliefs that they feel that if they force others to line in lock-step with them, it will validate the belief system. It's insecurity, plain and simple. Those who "witness" the most are the weakest believers.
