Approximately 6000 before the war started. There are reservists too. But these numbers can swell and increase beyond imagination. This is due to the concept of Jihad in Islam where every Muslim is duty bound to fight along and help any other Muslim who is involved in a war where ever it might be.

I think they are deeper in numbers then we give them credit for and it certainly seems like they are better trained then we thought.
