Matthew5:27 “YOU heard that it was said, ‘You must not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to YOU that everyone that keeps on looking at a woman so as to have a passion for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If, now, that right eye of yours is making you stumble, tear it out and throw it away from you. For it is more beneficial to you for one of your members to be lost to you than for your whole body to be pitched into Ge·hen´na. 30 Also, if your right hand is making you stumble, cut it off and throw it away from you. For it is more beneficial to you for one of your members to be lost than for your whole body to land in Ge·hen´na.

The Christian ethic that masturbation is wrong, is VERY wrong in its belief. It is a misinterpretation of the bible, and I really think such a prohibition exists as a control mechanism for church leadership.

See.. Christianity FEEDS off telling people they are sinners and they need the CHURCH to "save" them. Since all humans have a strong biological urge to breed, masturbation occurs almost universally (this means pretty much all men and most women DO actually masturbate). By creating GUILT, one then acknowledges their reality as a sinner and thus must turn to the church for salvation.

Nothing in original Christianity as started by Jesus' followers, required saving or a specific church. Such requirements came hundreds of years later and were put in there by humans who saw the value in uniting the world under one religion (Constantine a Roman emperor was instrumental in much of this change).

With Constantine, severe restrictions on human sexuality were imposed, such as those requiring chastity from nuns and priests.

Prior to that, society was far more open and accepting of sexual behavior, though always requiring intercourse to remain within the context of marriage.

Masturbation is both natural and healthy. Humans are biological orgasms that are meant to breed. We were created this way and the desire to breed is required to insure the continuation of the species.

However, it doesn't take religion to know that sexuality must be controlled by the individual or huge problems arise, including disease and children born out of irresponsible acts to parents who will not properly provide for them.

Sexual release has enormous value in preserving one's mental health and is one of the best stress relievers, however one does not always have, or want, a partner to experience release. Thus masturbation does the trick and does so without putting anyone at risk.

By making people feel horrible guilt for doing what comes naturally, church leaders can point to their imperfections and failure to meet the "Godly standard of behavior" thus you must submit to the church's rules because you fear for your mortal soul. Christianity rules via fear and routinely uses normal, healthy behaviors to create fear and thus encourage loyalty.

AS to the bible, every church interprets it a little differently and the stricter (fundamentalist) factions each have their own STRICT interpretation that MUST be followed. Each claims to be the ONLY true interpretation, which is a rediculous statement. How could so many be true? None can be proven to be more accurate than any other.

As a Jew, I was also subject to an interpretation of the old testament, and totally dismiss the new testament, but our faith encourages discussion and variant interpretations. Things like language translations and such can really change the original meaning of a passage.

Thus your inability to understand what the bible TRULY meant is understandable and, at least in my religion, acceptable. You should question meanings and figure out how to intrepret it to fit your life. No 2000 or 5000 year old book is going to remain relevant without interpretation.

Anyhow..masturbation is not wrong; it is the only truly save form of sex and it prevents people from making poor choices when choosing mates by allowing release prior or outside of marriage. (yes, married people masturbate too..because within a marriage, sex is a negotiation that must please both partners and they aren't always both in the mood for sex).

I hope that adds a fresh perspective.

No, but I am not a Church-going Christian. If masturbation was wrong, 3/4 of the world would be in jeopardy.

No it is not, if it were then God would not have given you the capability in the first place.
Religion thinks it is wrong because if you didn't, then you would crave a woman, get married early, have zillions of kids, and they would have another penny in the collection tin for every child.

More children, more followers of the religion, more money for the church. That's why one very aggressive religion does not allow contraception.

No, of course it isn't wrong to do so. I'm not religious at ALL but I can't understand church leaders who say that it's wrong...they only base it on the fact that those sperm COULD have become human beings. Ugh.

Perfectly alright, healthy as a matter of fact. Getting Truth from a Bible is like trying to squeeze custard out of a weasel's butt.

Did god not create our bodies? If he didn't want us to masterbate then he wouldn't have created us with these parts and these sensations.

Who are you hurting? No one! Does it feel good? Does everyone do it? YES! If you say you don't then you are lying.

Live a good life. Be a good person. And stop feeling guilty for doing something so natural.

No. It is a natural thing. Also, masturbation relieves migraines, stimulates the immune system, relieves menstrual cramps, and it reduces a man's chance of getting prostate cancer.
