The one I have now is a Vidal Sassoon, $10.00 from Wal Mart. It doesn't work very well at all for my hair. I have medium thickness, wavy hair. I can't spend more than $30 on it until I save up some money. (I'm hoping to buy a Chi hair straightener when I got the money) What is a good straightener for my type of hair, and what is a good place to buy it. Please help me with this. School starts next week and I won't be able to get an expensive straightener for about a month!!!!

Thank you so much.

Ignore the other answers and DO NOT GET CONAIR! They may be inexpensive but they don't work for me or anyone I know. I found a Revlon straightener on sale for $10, and I still use it. Look for one that talks about ions, because that's what helps make it straight and keep away frizz. You're also going to want a straightener that has different heat settings for different thicknesses and types of hair, because a straightener without this will damage your hair when it gets too hot. Mine heats up in less than a minute too. Good luck!

I don't recommend straightening at all, but I used to use a Remington wet/dry straightener that I got at target for $18.99. Make sure you get a very hot straightener and don't hold it in one place because you will cook your hair. The reason behind not getting one that doesn't get very hot, is because you will have to do multiple passes with it and break a lot more hair. Start on a hair section with the straightener right where the wave starts and do a fairly quick pass to cut down on damage. The hotter the straightener is, the fewer passes you will have to make.
