So.....this fighting with your moms dog. Does the dog get hurt, does the cat get hurt or is it just the introductory period when all animals will fight until they learn to live together????
I took in a small dog with all my cats, and the fur flew, for about 2 days. Now they ignore each other. I applaud you for not wanting him to go outside, but the jump from that window was a piece of cake for a cat that wanted to do it. Since you said he was covered with leaves I'm assuming that there was a soft yard underneath.
As for his being mean, well, that could just be frustration cause he wants to play and run and jump on all the furniture and annoy the dog.....*smile*
You will figure it out, but put a screen on your brothers window anyway, keeps bugs out and cats in.
Good luck

A number of possible reasons.
It may have lost it's balance and fallen, or it saw a nearby branch it wanted to try to jump to (cats love jumping), or maybe it thought it could land on (instead of in) the bushes. Maybe something flew by, and the hunter instinct took over, and the cat pounced without thinking..
But definately, get a screen put on the window, then kitty can sit in the windowsill without being able to get outside.

Don't worry my cat fell out of the window(we live on the top floor,3rd)
Your cat just probably saw something that caught its eye. Mind was looking at a bird and thought it was a good idea to get it.
And if your cat wants to go outside, not kidding here, take him/her for a walk. They have leashes for cats

many cats fall out windows - they have no conception of how far down they will fall. Particularly if they see a bird or a fly they will chase that right out over the sill. Find your cat and bring it to the vet - it might be hurt -
We often see these things in cats that have fallen out windows: broken legs, broken back, broke jaw, broken palate, internal bleeding...etc
secure your windows with netting or screens

have your mom or dad get a screen for your window,, if their is an open window you can bet a kitty will try to jump out to the nearsest tree branch! if you have a screen they can look out all they want
