I never eat anything before I get onto the ice except for a Hershey's Bar. I work hard during the game so when I work too hard it makes me feel like throwing up so I try to keep an empty stomach. I do eat a Hershey's Bar before big games for good luck. It's the Gordie Howe secret. If you don't believe me go look him up, it'll tell you all about how the Hershey's Bar was enough to keep him feeling like he had fresh legs in his 40's while he was playing with guys who were in their 20's and 30's.

Basically you want to eat any complex carbohydrates (pasta, rice, noodles, potatoes). Do not eat protein before as this is used to build muslce and do not eat it after the game either. After eat a high carbohydrate meal again. The best meal before any aerobic and anerobic mixed sport is boiled potatoes for 20 minutes which should be eaten 3 hours before the game. This meal is full of complex carbohydrates and releases energy over time during the game allowing top performance. Also you should aim to drink 2 litres of water over the two hours before the game begins, but not all at once, do it over time.

A lot of noodles. Noodles = Starch, Starch = energy. And make sure to drink some Gatorade or something too. Hydration is a big problem with people playing sports.
