Many Scientists have signed the decloration admitting that they really don't believe in Global Warming. Centuries ago the North pole was covered with Ferns and being eaten by hairy mamoths. So whats new?

Right now the Global Warming fearmongers are busy using it to their advantage. Movies from Hollywood touting the evils of our development of industrial lifestyle with apocalyptic effects have many convinced that we're on a path to doom.

Speaking contrary to this train of thought is still met with skepticism and accusations of "not caring".

This planet is changing all of the time. It did it LONG beore we came along so we are not to blame... it just happens. We'll adjust and keep on going. Just like every other form of life back then did.

We have evidence of the Ice Ages in our hip pockets as well as other climatic changes throughout the epochs. They don't want to hear it because it goes against their agendas. The opponents would rather us go back to living in huts and eating berries rather than admit that it's just another hype.

Hopefully, the time when Global Warming is fully recognized as just more of what makes the grass grow greener will be arriving shortly.

Global warming is real. Anyone who says otherwise is a fool who can't believe what's right in front of them. The evidence is unarguable! THE EARTH IS GETTING HOTTER! And the people who just say stuff like "oh well, it's happend before" are being just as stupid as those who don't believe in it. WE HAVE CAUSED THIS! No one seems to remember that, althought this has happened before, when it did, it was a total environmental disaster. The animals and plants that were around when it occured, all died off. Yes, they were replaced by different ones, but the ones that came before were DEAD! And in case that doesn't make it obvious enough... that would be US, people! Besides, this time, the climate change is happening at a much faster rate! And don't forget the pollution that goes with it... I mean, my god; will we humans ever learn? I'm really beginning to be an advocate of global warming, though- anything that can wipe the human race off the face of the earth MUST be a good thing.

I think that you mean arctic circle not north pole.... The north pole is entirely ice; their is no land mass, therefore if the ice melted there would be nothing at the north pole.

I do know what you mean though. I am willing to believe that humans do contribute slightly to global warming but the media is blowing the whole thing out of proportion.

There are other factors that contribute to global warming other than the greenhouse effect. Firstly the earth is slowing down in its orbit around the sun thus is becoming slightly closer to the sun. Also the earths spin is slowing down causing longer days and more exposure to sun light. (thats why an extra second is added to the atomic clocks every few years).

To say that humans alone are responsible for global warming is stupid. There are lots of other factors that contribute.

Also the majority of green house gases released into the atmospher come from forest fires and volcanos..... not man made things.

There is no debate that the earth's climate changes, smart people have been doing research for many years to come to this conclusion.

The problem here is the rate of change.

More smart people have looked at the evidence and can see a trend in climate change that starts at the beginning of the industrial revolution, either the two are linked or that's one hell of a coincidence.

Don I agree with you, so I'm going to have to address Claire's train-wreck of a response:

"The evidence is unarguable! THE EARTH IS GETTING HOTTER!"

0.5-1.0 C hotter in the past 100 years, check.

"WE HAVE CAUSED THIS! No one seems to remember that, althought this has happened before, when it did, it was a total environmental disaster. The animals and plants that were around when it occured, all died off."

You're saying that every time the Earth warmed up there was a total extinction of multi-celled organisms and we had to start back over from microbes? Sorry honey, not even Al Gore would agree with that. Plants and animals don't all die every time the Earth goes through its cycles. Maybe you're thinking of the asteroid that killed off the dinosaurs? In which case it was just the largest creatures that died off while the smaller creatures (with lower food requirements) survived.

"Yes, they were replaced by different ones, but the ones that came before were DEAD!"

It's called natural selection. But it doesn't matter anyways because you are referring to them dying from extreme weather which is just not true.

"And in case that doesn't make it obvious enough..."

No, it doesn't.

"Besides, this time, the climate change is happening at a much faster rate! And don't forget the pollution that goes with it... I mean, my god; will we humans ever learn?"

The rate of CO2 is increasing faster than before, but the Earth is pretty resilient after 4 billion years of existance, and I'm pretty sure the fact that it is still standing is a testament to its ability to adapt to varying conditions. There's nothing wrong with limiting pollution, but if you're going to be all 'doomsday' about it, I'm not going to listen. Do you want to give up your job (and everyone in your family's job) so that companies can pay to pollute less? Didn't think so.

"I'm really beginning to be an advocate of global warming, though- anything that can wipe the human race off the face of the earth MUST be a good thing."

Again, hypocracy sucks. Get off your computer and go live in the forest if you're so pessimistic about the human race.

What's "new" is the introduction of smoke-belching factories and vehicle emissions that have accelerated the natural process of global warming. In the past 150 years, we've poisoned the air with more pollutants and it's having a severe impact on the planet.

But, hey - people like J.D. don't think there's anything to worry about. So I've a deal for you, J.D.: why don't you send me ALL your money, and I'll deliberately squander it as quickly and as needlessly as I possibly can. What's the sense in trying to save any of your resources? There's plenty more where that came from!

So what if global warming isn't even a viable issue? Does that mean we should just continue to squander all of the Earth's resources just because there's plenty more?

Someday, J.D., you might actually grow up, get married, and have children. Those children will have children, whom you might be proud to bounce on your knee one day. But they might be wearing gas masks in order to breathe; there might not be enough fresh drinking water for them to use freely; and their lifestyles might be dramatically different than ours all because WE refused to REuse, REturn, REcycle, and WE refused to recognize the delicate ecological balance between man, plants and all other animals. An evolutionary 'big bang' process (or an intelligent designer, or Nature, or God) created an environment able to sustain life for all living creatures, as they naturally evolved or became extinct.

But you'll have to explain to your great-grandchildren that it was OUR generation who so arrogantly wasted all the planet's resources, buried everything in landfills, and caused the Earth's polar ice caps to melt more quickly, which caused devastating hurricanes, floods, and other 'natural' disasters on both coasts of both major oceans. It was OUR generation who foolishly assumed our natural resources would never run out, and so we chose to become a disposable society where we simply tossed everything into the trash. If I were you, I'd be preparing right now for the speech you'll someday have to give your great-grandchildren. Waste not, want not. Waste much, want much.
Your descendants won't live the way you're accustomed to living all because of your selfishness, arrogance, hubris, and avarice. -RKO-

While it's a good idea for us to do everything we can to reduce our impact to the environment, I don't support encouraging it with the threat of our impending doom (Oh no! The sky is falling!).

Atmospheric and climate scientists haven't figured out the climate puzzle. We'll probably figure out a way to reduce our emissions and other problems before we can figure out everything that affects Earth's climate system, regardless of whether we scare billions of people or not in the process.

Centuries ago the North Pole was covered with ferns? How many centuries do you mean? Please try to nail down claims like that with more concrete numbers so we can all follow along and support/refute your statements constructively.

Afraid it won't be politically correct until we have global cooling, then we'll assume we're to blame for that too. Probably is a trend but we as humans are probably helping. Extra CO2 & deforestation. South pole is where land and ferns were. I've always felt the world balances itself and will fix itself, even if that means getting rid of us.

I think within the next 50 years it will no longer be a question open to political correctness or debate. Warming or not, the question will become part of an environmental train wreck. To survive we will need to do something to slow the consumption of natural resources, and generating polution. Warming will be seen as part of an ugly, expensive situation.

Soon, I hope!!
The earth goes through cycles some of the hottes summers recorded were in the 1920's and1930's before "global warming"... eventually we'll begin a cooling phase and our 'pollution' will no doubt be the cause of that too I'm sure.
