It's not the CD player it's the CD. Try putting in your Culture Club CD and it should work fine.

it sounds as though it could be your laser inside the CD Player, what happens when you try to turn it on ? does it come up with anything ?
If it comes up , but cant read the tracks properly of the CD , then it sounds like your laser.
Take to a repair shop , or you could make sure your Laser isnt dirty , do this by getting a CD cleaner cd.

i agree with constantine, they will charge you at least 35 to look at it and another 40 to take it out, just go to a reputable shop or best buy, circut city, hhgregs and just purchase a new one they should offer installation and a warranty on both, most decent cd players start around 140 and the big box stores offer free installs+parts(i.e. dash kit and harness)

you must buy a new one. the problem can be dust. or it can be the crystal. if you send it to service it ll be more expensive than a new one. so...buy a new one.
