I have tried bringing pictures or fur but I still was scared around all the bullies. With my teachers dog around my heart didnt race I felt safe an I felt comfortable in my own skin. I could be myself. I think if I need a therapy dog I will get a shelter dog and train her myself. I found a dog that seems really nice.

I guess you may but have you tried using a picture of your dog or buy some fur to rub when you feel anxious that may help too.

You don't need a trained dog. Go to animal pound and pick out any pooch you feel you have a rapport with. It might also be a good idea to get counseling for your discomfort around people. It sounds like there is more than a heart problem. With a doctor's certificate you could get a license for your dog as a therapy need so you could take him wherever you go. Good luck.

Definitely get a dog. They are used in the psychiatric hospital I worked at and the results are wonderful. Talk to your doctor and talk to him about getting a prescription and see what he thinks. If he is not experienced in such assessments, then ask for a referral. It is difficult to get therapy dogs and there are long waiting lists, but if you work with the right people, then you can probably find a solution to your problem. Dogs just have that special spirit that heals.

You have to be legally disabled to qualify for a service dog that you can take everywhere. A dog going to school with you needs to be VERY calm and well trained! A dog in school can cause a lot of disruption for the other students - and it can't be aggressive at all. Talk to your doctors and the school nurse or counselor about it.

Check with organizations like CCI that provide trained service dogs to the handicapped:

At this point in your life I think you need whatever it takes to make you comfortable. I'm not in school any more, in fact when I went to school they had outhouses....just kidding, but I don't care for people that much. I have several cats and have spent most of my life caring for animals. If ind myself comfortable around people who share the same interests. There is certainly someone at school who has your same interests....but...if you do get a Therapy dog and it is medically necessary for him/her to go to school with you, I think you will find that the dog will help in making friends. People will talk to you about your dog and things will progress from there.

Good luck in your life little one, and I hope things go well for you.

If you want to go through your therapist, then simply explain your need like you did above. But you don't need a therapists approval to get a dog. Animal shelters are a good place to find one to your liking since dogs there need owners. Check the cost carefully, though, since usually you have to pay fees for shots and any medical attention the animal was given.

mostly any dog would do, all dogs are loving and are full with companion ship. smaller dogs maybe easier to handle, but they also bark a lot more. bigger dogs can cuddle with you, but not on your lap
