we are told that in the realm they exists , they are as physical as you and me with all out parts in nice working order ..
we are told we return to our prime and for most people that would be around 30ish
when spirit appear to us via a medium .. it is their thought only that makes the connection .. a mind to mind link with the medium . they would transfer thought and memory and personal details
so that the spirits loved ones can validate that their loved one in spirit lives on and is still very much part of our lives
i feel that we remain with a physical appearance until such time we progress and have no need for a physical body

I don't believe we have a physical body, but we can choose to appear to others in whatever way we feel will make that other person most comfortable, whether that be as a woman (or perhaps the image of what I look like in this life), or as a man (as I may or may not have been in a past life.) I think the best way to describe our spiritual 'bodies' is as beings of light.

Swedenborg insisted that a man lives after a man after he dies and a woman lives as a woman after she dies. That we have a spiritual body that is even more substantial than our physical bodies here.
