it depends on the personality of that person. if a person basically tolerant he will be tolerant towards other people whether he is an atheist or believer.a person who is rational and free of any dogmatic ideology and empathetic is tolerant irrespective of the religion to which he belongs to.

Option 3: Agnostics...these are the most tolerant people of religion because they hold the belief that since they do not know for sure of the answers to important questions that religions attempt to answer (creation, post-death, human's role on earth, etc...) so they do not attempt to vanguard one story or interpretation. They are otherwise more than willing to learn from people of ALL religions and it is this will to learn that makes them tolerant.

Often times religious beliefs require complete devotion to that faith to the point where any other belief (regardless of the righteousness or morality of the individual) is heretical. It is at this point that tolerance goes out the window, since the rest of the world does not conform to the same beliefs.
It's not like this for all religions; I know that in Judaism it is your actions and not your beliefs that determines the type of person you are.

Atheists respect the feeling of others can be debated - Religion has nothing to do with tolerance provided you are well groomed and not biased or brain washed.

i know a lot of atheists who are total bigots. i know a lot of Cristians (including myself) who are only intolerant of bigots and other people who say stupid things. And child molestors but that is a whole other rant.
true christians are tolerant of all people because none of us have the right answers. only God has the right to judge other people. We are here to treat our neighbours as ourselves and hope to lead by example. how are we leading by example if we go around judging people? None of us a perfect. Not one christian. If we were we would be up there right now with God. So therefore we do not have the right to judge others. If someone proclaims to be a Christian yet judges others she he needs to go back and read the new testament.

atheists are much more tolerant.
No one who believes in the first commandment can claim to be tolerant. The 1st alone is a statement of intolerance.

No, like other religions, Atheism has numerous intrepretations and consequently numerous denominations. I for instance belong to the 'Receive a Bible, Shove It Back Down Their Throat' denomination, rather than the dirty liberal peacenik 'Receive a Bible, Flush It" denomination.
