If youre talking about advancements in sonic technology there are actually two that I know of. One uses ultra low frequency sound waves, dont know too much about it except for rumors. The other is a flat panel speaker that focuses sound waves much the way a lazer focuses light waves. It allows you to project a sound to a specific area instead of within a radius like a regular speaker and it also allows you to bounce sound off of objects to the point that these sounds can be heard by the human ear.

It's an interrogation device.

The victim sits on a corrugated metal chair in a closed room with reflecting walls. The chair is wired so that a charge can be sent to the victim, a charge severe enough to almost rattle his/her brains.

The interrogator sits in another room and asks questions over a closed telephone system..

If the victim tells a lie, the walls reverberate the lie over and over again at a painful sound pitch.

It has a success ratio of about 93% and it leaves no marks on the victim.

The only one I have ever heard about was used for less then lethal force. It was a set of large speakers horns set up to use sound waves around 20Hz. It instantly cause ppl to crap their pants. The waves would go threw their intestines and cause vibrations in the mussels, causing them to expel anything in the intestines.
