The rash is better, but the pain on my forehead and temple comes and goes--very uncomfortable. The pain clinic doctor put me on 10 mg. Amitriptyline at bedtime 2 days ago, and both nights I've wakened with terrible itching around my eye and on my head and scalp. My icebag is my source of pain relief and believe me the itching is painful! This morning the itching is 'hanging on' and I have moments of really bad itching and then it gets better, I've had to use ice once. I just took Tylenol and 1/2 a Xanax (5 mg.). It's better at the moment. Could this be a side effect of the new medication? If so, why would I just itch where the shingles has attacked and not all over? It's on the right side of my face. I take Lyrica too. I am better except for this ongoing pain and now the itching. Any suggestions or comments--please!! thanks

I had Shingles for the first time a few weeks ago. I am normally in good health and haven't had any other health challenges before, so it came as a surprise.

Shingles is probably the most painful thing I have ever encountered. I went to the doctor, and he gave me some prescription drugs to take that was suposed to help, but didn't.

My wife found the Fast Shingles Cure ebook online and bought it for me, I am very lucky to have such a wonderful woman in my life. We followed the book, did what it said, and it delivered what it promised. Finally my Shingles rash is over... I feel truly blessed and thankful.

I had the shilgles when I was 8 years old. I know very un common. I guess i am a very uncommon person. I did not have the rash on my face and head like you. My shingles (the oily blisters) were all over my left side of my body from my neck under my left armpit and chest all the way down to my buttocks. also about 20 days of misery & agony. the pain and the itching was absolutly maddening . all my parent could do is complain about my complaining. my father was a doctor too. Anyway I have empathy for you and sympathize for you. I hope you feel better soon and good luck

I had shingles manifest on the left side of my abdomen. My pain first made my doctor think I had kidney stones, so he prescribed something to take the edge off the pain and asked me to return in a few days, thinking I'd pass the stone. Upon examining me again during my return visit, he found the tell-tale spots he had not seen before.

He prescribed a regimen of Valtrex, which cleared up my shingles within a few days.

For the itching, have you tried a topical application of Hydrocortisone? Ask your doctor about these things.

Good luck with this. I hope you recover soon.

tell the dr about the other drugs you're taking if they don't already know - did he/she approve taking xanax and lyrica with the amitriptyline? but definitely talk to your dr about all side effects

if you're over 60, you should think about getting ZOSTAVAX (shingles vaccine) after it clears up

You need to go to the doctor, don't medicate yourself. Shingles are in the same family of chicken-pox, varicela or and herpes soster, that mean that your body still have remains of the chicken pox. Better go to the doctor to get a strong pain relief, my gramma had it and it took around 6 month to cure it. Wish you get well and don't medicate yourself go to your doctor please.

You will just have to endure the pain. The nature of Shilgles is that it is very, very painful. I am afraid you will have to live with it a little bit longer.

cut out the sugar in your diet. use sugar substitutes. sugar is the number 1 culprit of a lot of reoccurring illnesses and conditions. you may have a food allergy, and the body is reacting to too much of whatever the sugar is doing. Also try vitamin water and vitamins to replace what the body is lacking. Mark sure you get vitamins with minerals.
