I'm black ( you need to know that to understand) and last year I moved from texas( witch i fit in fine) to new city and state (memohis TN) . My folks put me in a private school but since we are new here we did not know that it was a school that they send public school bad kids. so the whole time they picked at me for speaking clealy and being smart. I have nothing aganist people in the gutter because a i know that i could be there too but i'm not, sould I be faulted for it. So it got so bad that a kid brought a knife to school (long story). But now im going to a public school in the country and is there any thing i need to know to stay out of trouble and make friends while still being myselft. This is not a test so you dont have to correct me.

Wow. That sounds hard. I hope school's going alright for you. I'm glad you moved to a different school! I think you've got it all right. You should stay true to yourself and ignore people if they try to make fun of you or try to sway you toward a different belief. If you keep your head high and stick with it, they'll notice they're not getting anywhere with their one man fight. I really hope everything goes ok!

Just be yourself. Try to find friends you can trust and with whom you have something in common. Stay away from the "bad" kids in order to keep focused on school and the right path. Just look around for kids you think you could be friends with. Smile. You may find that if you are open to new people, they may just come up to you. There is nothing wrong with asking somebody you think you'd like to know better questions about the school, teams, activities. Maybe try to join a club or participate in an activity you excel at or would like to try: dance, a sport, or a club/board/committee. There should be some kind of new student orientation---there is at bigger schools--so if there is, keep your eyes/ears open to that. Good luck! You sound like a nice girl.

I've taught for over 20 years and have four children... so here's some sound advice. My friend, focus on your studies... focus on getting the very best education possible. Hit the books... join some clubs or organizations that interest you as well. If you play an instrument, join band. Your friendships with others who do the same will grow from similar interests. Enjoy your new school, and study, study, study.
