I hava had a male lovebird who is very tame. I have had him for 2 years. Sometimes I would like to get him a female to breed with but do not want him to become wild. Is it possable for me to get a tame female and put them together, and work with both everyday and them both stay people friendly?

I cannot even put an empty toilet paper roller in with my love bird and keep him tame. He starts to hump it and protect it. And then will attach my hand each time I try to reach in the cage.

I have heard of a few people who were able to put two in a cage together and still be able to handle them.... but as a rule, if you mate your lovebird, it stops being a pet.

He will never become totally untamed. However if you put a female with him, his priorities might change. Its all about whether or not you want to breed lovebirds, or if your really content having your pet. Lovebirds arent generally unpeople friendly.

You have to interact with them both a lot, and you have to have separate cages and toys for quarantine.

Don't expect them to breed right away, and don't even think about breeding if you don't have the time or money to properly care for the new birds.

But yes, you can. Go to the birdtalkmagazine forum and talk to other people who have done it.

Your bird will bond with the female. You will no longer have a friend - just a breeding pair.
