They should NEVER leave the uterus!!!! IF they do, the cat will be at risk for a pyometeria the rest of it's life!!!!! That is an infection of the uterus where it fills with pus and is life threatening!!!!!! RUN from a vet that will only remove the ovaries!!!!! Uterus comes out too!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a bit concerned that the vet did not answer some of these questions for you.
Are you posting from USA? It is the common practice to take everything, ovaries, uterus, tubes. Scoop it all out. The reason for this is now kitty will not get cancer of any of these parts, and the ovary's must be removed to stop the heat cycle, which is the most annoying part of having an intact female cat. Cats that go thru heat repeatedly esp. without being bred, have a higher incidence of mammary cancers.
You probably will be told to bring in the cat first thing in the morning and pick her up after work. By the time you get to her she will be up and yowling for you. Probably. I have had 3 cats go thru this. Two did not seem to be affected at all, one slept for four days. That's cats. They are very individual little creatures. Take your clue from your cat. If she seems fine, she probably is fine, if she wants to take it easy, wrap a towel around a hot water bottle and offer that to her to lie on.
You may ask this vet about pain meds. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES GIVE A CAT ASPRIN. sorry to shout but it kills them. Do not give cats any other people medicine or dog medicine unless the vet says it's ok. Cats and dogs and people metabolize things differently.
Your vet should be using the new stitchs that are absorbed into the body. These are cool because the cat can't try to take them out with her teeth.

As others said, they take out the uterus and ovarian tubes- ovariohysterectomy. Ask your vet if they send home pain meds- there are no pills cats can take, but there is some liquid you can give at home- Buprenorphine which is approved for cats or Metacam- which is not approved but still works perfectly fine. If they give you pills- don't take them, they only last for 3-4 hours so unless you are willing to pill your cat that often.... She should feel fine by the time she goes home. SHE WILL NOT BE GROGGY FROM ANESTHESIA!!! Pets "blow off" anesthesia within 10-20 minutes of being taken off of it. If she was sedated before hand- then yes she will be groggy for several hours. The best thing is to bring her home, let her relax under your bed or wherever her favorite hiding place is. She should be back to normal by the next morning. Check the inicison daily for redness, swelling, discharge, and make sure it is still closed. ASK FOR PAIN MEDS. If they don't have any, I would look for another vet. With today's advances in veterinary medicine- there is no reason why a pet should be in pain. It does not provide anything medically- such as "the pet will leave the incision alone because it is painful"- no she won't. She will try to get rid of the pain by chewing at it! Great for being a responsible pet owner and having your kitty spayed! And as for charging 60-90 bucks to get stitches removed as the previous poster stated- not true. Suture removal is factored into the price of the procedure at most hospitals.

When a animal is spayed it is like having a hysterectomy. They cut all the reproductive organs out. Animal do very well after having this surgery. There is such a small incision they do not seem to have much pain. She may lay around for a few days from the anesthesia, but should be back to normal in a couple of days.

She will bounce back quickly because she is so young. What you will notice most the first day is that she is groggy from anesthesia.

Ask the vet to give her some pain medication though she shouldn't have a lot of pain. The operation, removing ovaries and uterus, is very straightforward and goes very quickly. It is a little more invasive than the male neutering because they have to go into the body cavity.

She will be her old self in a couple of days at most.

Depends on the vet practices. She will probably get stitches that disolve on the inside and then glue on the outside.
Ovariohysterectomy is the medical term for spaying a female cat. During surgery the ovaries and uterus are removed, eliminating heat periods and pregnancy.
When she gets home she will probably still be groggy. and sleep. She should be back to normal after about 3 days.
You can request pain medicine. They are little pills.

I just had my male cat neutered not long ago, he was back to normal within 3 or 4 days. The vet sent home meds for his pain so don't worry about your little lady, she will do fine.

By the way, before surgery my cat weighed 11 pounds, he is QUICKLY gaining up to nearly 20 now and I have had to put him on a diet (Science Diet Lite brand) so he has began to level out and not still becoming like Garfield. :-)

When I got my female kitten fixed, she couldn't walk right. She would stumble around and then meow then just pass out. She will be in A LOT of pain, and it will definitely hurt if you pick her up wrong or if you accidentially touch her stitches. She can't eat for 24 hours, and she can only have little sips of water. Don't leave the water bowl down, just let her get some water and pick the bowl back up.
When you pick her up from the vet they will probably give you some instructions.

Yes, she will be sore for a few days, but not to the point of uncomfortable. they will do a hysterectomy on her, but she will be knocked out. They might give yo something for the pain for her, but I doubt it. She should be back to herself the next day or two and will feel better fast. It is a good thing that you are doing, and I would not worry about it.

you don't have to worry at all about the surgery..your cat will be recovered in no time...the operation is very easy to do...the doctor may remove its ovaries and uterus in the same time or remove only the ovaries...either way is appropriate..during the operation it will be completely asleep so your cat wont feel a thing..when she will wake up it depends on the technology of anesthesia...but if they intubate it, your cat will wake up in about 10-20 minutes after the surgery is over and till next day it will be on its feet again..about the pain..it depends on the doctor if he want to give your cat something but it's not absolutely necessary..anyway your cat will feel better if she gets something for the pain at least for one day..your responsibility will be to maintain the bandages and the wound clean..but this things you will find out from your veterinary doctor, don't worry..so..be optimistic... is the easiest operation on earth for female cats
