What unites all free and independent people in Britain? What is the most shared common cultural value amonsgst all sectors of society?

It's the good old British pub isn't it.

Surely the way to ensure Muslims integrate with the rest of society is to get them to change their religious thinking on alchol is forbidden, to something more like: alchol should be discouraged or drank proportionately.

In doing this we could all go down the pub together and have a quiet enjoyable pint and all this Muslim / Christian / Jewish cultural divide would be removed. We can all get drunk and say, hey this is much more enjoyable then getting on my soap box and shouting about racial inequality, racism in society, death tIo Israeal blah blah blah.

I've been to Muslim countrys and they are so the same as Western societys deep down. They all have little drinking holes hidden away somewhere and they have brothels too. Its just they are less advertised and harder to find.

A beer could solve it all.

Can't some people lighten up a bit .... it was just an idea....

Well I drink alchol, lots of it in a responsible way and I've never murdered or raped anybody. True there is quite a lot of drink fueled violence sometimes, but not at the places I drink at. Think thats more to do with the individual then the drink.

Alchol can have as much a relaxing influence as a violent one, take europes cafe culture.

Don't think murders and rapes are all caused by alchol. Think there might be a few other factors.

But the main point is doesn't alchol act as a social cohesion and a meeting place , in much the same way as a Muslim mosque does?

I know alchol is prohibited... point is can't the religion be adapted so its more exceptable to Western society. Be nice to see a few Arabs drinking in the pub one time.

"Intoxicants were forbidden in the Qur'an through several separate verses revealed at different times over a period of years. At first, it was forbidden for Muslims to attend to prayers while intoxicated (4:43). Then a later verse was revealed which said that alcohol contains some good and some evil, but the evil is greater than the good (2:219). This was the next step in turning people away from consumption of it. Finally, "intoxicants and games of chance" were called "abominations of Satan's handiwork," intended to turn people away from God and forget about prayer, and Muslims were ordered to abstain (5:90-91). (Note - the Qur'an is not arranged chronologically, so later verses of the book were not necessarily revealed after earlier verses.)"
"Muslims interpret these verses in total to forbid any intoxicating substance -- whether it be wine, beer, gin, whiskey, or whatever. The result is the same, and the Qur'an outlines that it is the intoxication, which makes one forgetful of God and prayer, which is harmful. Over the years, the list of intoxicating substances has come to include more modern street drugs and the like."

I'd say alcohol and other intoxicants cause MORE problems in society---look at the murder and rape rates in your "civilized" western countries. All you have to do is take a look at how many fights happen for no good reason in bars/pubs. I don't think drinking is gonna solve anything, If it was as easy as that, wouldn't just having dinner together be enough to break the ice?

No, the religion cannot be adapted to allow the consumption of alcohol. The Quran is the only Holy book that has never been changed or revised. Every word, sentence and paragraph has remained the same since the day it was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him).
Drinking alcohol would not solve the problems facing the world today.
I went to a party the other week,my Christian friends were all having a glass of wine, myself and my other Muslim friends had soft drinks. Everyone had a great time and my point is that it's not alcohol that brings people together but friendship.

I comprehend your situation, although i do no longer propose you to transform. First, Islam is predicated on the seventh century Arabia. It has stepped forward somewhat. Cigarettes weren't wide-unfold decrease back then, so no ask your self this isn't any longer haram. Technically, Quran in basic terms mentions wine as haram. yet, pupils interpret it as drugs and alcohol nowaday to in basic terms make it sound extra scientific. circulate take some Cultural Anthropology and historical background classes at an area college. Alcohol intake and beef are taboo in many so stated as pagan traditions/cults. It has no longer something to do with well being. each thing we consume has some side outcomes. this is the ******** that Muslims come as much as justify their stupid regulations. All animals are technically grimy, circulate to a farm or a meat production facility, you would be disgusted. in case you think of Christianity became right into a fairytale, I would desire to enable you comprehend that, Islam is not extra effective than that fairy tale. it fairly is like evaluating Harry Potter with Twilight. in simple terms as a results of fact Twilight is extra moderen and extra unique, it does not make it from now on suited or the actual fairy tale! there is incredibly no actual faith, if there became into one, there does not be this many traditions. Religions are man made, to alleviation discomfort, answering depressing question with convincing solutions, making income, device of mass administration.

HYPOCRISY!

Muslim countries are some of the biggest producers in the International Drugs Trade - Lebanon, Iran, Somalia and Afghanistan.

Drugs have been quite acceptable in the Muslim world. It is OK to smoke HASHISH. They were even doing it a thousand years ago back in the days of those cuddly fellas The Assassins of Alamut - Hezbollah's predecessors.

Yet they would be happy to banish the world of the Wine and Beer Industry.

Man, what a contradiction!!! Please explain that one to me.

Drinking is not acceptable in Muslim society. Robert W is right when he says - a blind eye is turned to illegal drinking holes and brothels. Before any of you Stop the West (sorry Stop the War, yes, I know, but that’s their real agenda) camp followers accuse us of a Zionist Conspiracy. Please note we don't know each other YET!

Case in point - a recent BBC documentary "Execution Of A Teenage Girl" about a 16 year old girl in Iran who was hanged for Crimes Against Chastity, after a forced confession, although she had been raped. This is apart from the fact that this VIOLATES the United Nations Convention on Human Rights for Children - that it is illegal to Execute Children, which Iran is a signatory to.

Judge Haji Reza'i, who was also the local mullah, prosecutor and head of the city administration, personally obtained permission from Iran's Supreme Court to execute her. He put the noose around her neck himself before she was hoisted on a crane jib arm to her death.

Just as shocking - but not surprising - was the fact that the local Morality Police who charged her also ran the local drinking hole and brothel.

PS Interesting point: The word "Assassin" actually comes from Arabic. It was coined from a secretive extremist Shia Arabic-Iranian Terrorist organisation based in Lebanon and Iran called the Hashisham (Assassins) of Alamut. They were founded by Hassan i Sabbah of the Persian Ismai'ili sect in 1090. Their Mission was to kill Western Infidels and Crusaders, but they also killed a lot of other Muslims they did not like. They also conducted lots of Suicide Missions. They were major players in the international Drugs trade. The Assassins of Alamut, it is said liked to imbibe copious quantities of Hashish before they assassinated someone. Hence the origin of the word "Assassin". The Assassins were finally destroyed by the Mongols under Genghis Khan. This was greeted with much joy by orthodox Muslims. The Assassins have been a blue print for many of the modern Terrorist organisations such as Hezbollah. No change in the Middle East there then!

Your logic is false. Pubs are a common meeting place for many people. Pubs serve alcohol. Therefore it is necessary to drink alcohol in order to meet people. WRONG!

Alchohol is the direct cause of more racial violence that any other single thing.

Its just the close-minded people who discriminate and become racists according to religion.
I'm a muslim and i can get along fine with anyone different from my belief if he is not shallow-thinking(if you know what i mean!).
I don't need to drink alcoholic drinks just to show a christian that i'm getting along fine with him(just like he don't need to stop drinking alcohol to show his true friendship with me).I think that anyone can believe in what he want to believe according to his religion and its morals.....and we all can get along just fine!
And F.Y.I(for your information)alcohol is prohibited in Islam so that people are awake and aware most of the time and not getting drunk.
So i just say "be peacful, believe in what you want to believe and vice versa,do what you think is okay as long as its not hurting the others"...you know if this is common among people we all would be getting along just fine without any hatred, agree?!
Peace..!

Hey, be realistic. drinking is not a solution. And if drinking will make me support what is happening in Iraq, Palestine, or Lebanon. Then I'd never drink.
