9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals,[a] nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.
1 Corinthians 6:9-11 (New King James Version)
According to a plain reading of this, this is saying to me that anyone who is homosexual is immediately disqualified from going to heaven. Is this a correct reading of these verses or is there something more to it? Because I'm reading and it says homosexuals won't go to heaven, and it says that the group that will is "were" specifically use of the word "were" in v 11.

Why should anyone have to apologize for something that is an innate part of themselves. That would be like me asking for forgiveness because I am a redhead..

WHAT!? Homosexuals singled out? Where? YOU SINGLED IT OUT buddy. (not yelling, just emphasizing - btw).
You just did like so many of my misled brethren have done and continue to do. The Homosexuals are not alone in this -and not solely responsible to a moral life before God.
ALL OF THEM ARE DISQUALLIFIED... as you pointed out...,
Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
ALL Sinners are disqualified from heaven - in the same sense that if you don't meet the requirements, you cant even enter a race, join any professional sports club, work for NASA or anything else that would be elite.
However - unlike these human specialties - the educational needs or health requirements are not a priority and not exclusive to the wealthy. Heaven is attainable - but there are requirements. Requirements both the intelligent and less intelligent can meet.
If they don't want to abide by the requirements - they don't get in. Try joining NASA as an Astronaut with less than perfect health, or just a high-school diploma. Try joining a professional football team without passing the performance tests..., this list can go on and on.
The illustration is there. If you cant see it, then you are as blind a the proverbial bat. - Sorry - but thats just the way it is.

Considering that the Bible speaks of 2 different hopes for faithful Christians (one hope is for heavenly life, held out to very few, and the other hope for the vast majority of faithful ones being everlasting life here on the earth), when that scripture talks about such ones not "inheriting the Kingdom", it refers to both hopes. If someone is willfully practicing a serious sin against God, such as homosexuality, they put themselves in line to lose ANY share in the kingdom and in enjoying its blessings.
As verse 11 reads, and you rightfully point out, some faithful Christians in the first century WERE (note the past tense of the word) adulterers, homosexuals, and so forth but they repented. They gave up that lifestyle with God's help and moved forward with their lives in a way that was obedient to God.
People who think homosexuality is an "inate" part of oneself obviously have no sense of logic. If God created them to be that way, then why would he turn around and tell them they have to abandon such a lifestyle in order to be acceptable to him? Come on people....think.

As some have written they (we) were those things but have been washed and sanctified and justified.
I was many of those things. lets see, yep I was a bunch of those!
But I have been made a new creation, Changed so much that people who I knew before were shocked to see such a difference. So I know that it means what it means and not as you say, they were washed and still lost, but washed and set free!

God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.
These sodomites who think they might get into heaven are sadly mistaken.
If you are a sodomite, I would really like to talk to you and get you down on your knees praying with me. Maybe we could work things out with God.
