Bactine helps as much as anything and it's less painful than rubbing alcohol. There are ointments specifically for bug bites, and most of the better insect repellents contain anti-inflammatories for bites you've already got. The bites itch because they're infected, but nothing to worry too much about.
You must live down south and have fire-ants. We don't have them in the north. I was born in Ohio and I'm back there now. I've lived in Texas, Florida, Mississippi, and Arizona, so I've had more than a few bites myself. I miss certain things about the south, but not fire-ants.
Right now, I have fleas. My neighbors moved out Wednesday, so the landlord sprayed there and chased them all over here. I didn't have any fleas at all before. They should have sprayed the other apartments, too, because now we're all upset about getting eaten alive. So I know how you feel and that's why your question caught my eye. Hope we both feel better real soon.
Peace and love!

Hydrocortisone cream will stop the itch. If you rub a sheet of BOUNCE on it, it will stop it, too.
The reason that ant bites itch so bad is because most people are allergic to them. Not enough to go into analphylactic shock, mind you, but enough to release histamines that make you ITCH LIKE CRAZY!
Go get some anti-itch cream from the store and take a benedryl.

As for the bites: when the ants bite they secreate formic acid which is very irritating and inflamatory. As for the treatment try rubbing the bitten places with a cube of ice several times over and the itching will disappear immediately. Trust me.

Itching depends on how much you are allergic to the bites and how much immunity you have built up.
Stay away from the ants or get rid of them with a mixture of 1/2 teaspoon baking soda and 1/2 teaspoon icing sugar. distribute a small amount of this mixture around the ant hill or on the ant run if it's in your house. continue to distribute it if it washes away - daily if necessary. the ants will carry it to the queen and she will eat it and blow up - seriously - and viola no more ants!

Yikes!!! could be Chiggers. Itch like hell for about fourteen days. If you were in the grass, around some pretty orange flowers thats probably it . search chiggers. buy a bottle of chiggerrid put some on each bite and tough it out as if it is Chiggers...there is nothing you can do but ride it out.
mmm are you sure you don't have hives? when i moved from nyc to orlando i got all kinds of allergic reactions, now i break out from hives. . . whenever. my dr. says its because my body doesn't really like the tropical environment and is rejecting it in a way. i just take alavert when i get a break out and keep cortizone cream on me. did you go to the dr. at all?

Hi Top Man. Have you been out in the woods or a grassy, weedy area? I am in Texas and we have chiggers here. My boyfriend and son both work in the oil and gas industry and have to walk through fields of high grass and wooded areas. My boyfriend gets chiggers on his legs all of the time. They cause red itchy spots. Rubbing alcohol helps. You can put it directly on your legs. It will burn. Or you can do what he does when they are really driving him crazy. Take a warm bath with the alchohol mixed in with the water. Pour a half of a bottle or a little less into the tub and swish it around. That usually works for him. My son got them one time and didn't know what to do. We were out of town and when we returned, he had scratched them so much that they were inflamed. Try not to scratch them. There is also a product called Caladryl. It helps soothe the itching in between baths. It is a mixture of calamine lotion and benadryl. You buy it at a drug store or in the drug department at a grocery store. I hope this or someone else's advice helps.
thuis is all that i could help u
gud luck and hope u'll chose mine as best ...

I heard it itches because not only do they bite you but they inject you with acid and that's what causes it to be so irritated. Try some baking soda to neutralize the acid.

When an ant bites you, they are putting poison into your system. Try to put some rubbing alcohol directly on the bite. (IT WILL BURN!) Then after the burn is gone, then the itch will be gone!

It is due to formic acid injected to your blood.
Locally apply immediately a cream called "dermovate" together with "fucidin" antibiotic cream. You could have a serious inflammation. Both will stop itching immediately.
If othe rparts of your body are swollen, you need an antihistaminic "Atarax" 10 mg for 2 days
