Tell the child God is just like his mother...just like his mom God beings us all to this world, guides us, provides for us and teaches us to live right until we can manage on our own and even after that, is there for us when we need support the most....we can sometimes deviate from what God taught us and be untrue to ourselves and hope God will not catch us, but God, like mom, will always know....only difference is that God is invisible !
Oh n like everyone has their own mom, everyone has their own God...but end of the day, they are all the same !!

Well that all depends on what God your trying to explain to the child. Do note though that at that age the childs brain and character are still indevelopment, whatever you put into them at that age will effect how they turn out later. A child of coarse does not know how to use logic and reason and therefore he/she has no choice but to believe whatever the parents tell them as Truth. Because of that you better make sure you are telling them the right thing, because their entire life will be in your hands, and if you just happen to brainwash them into the wrong religion well then they are screwed. Anywas my point is that you shouldn't even try to teach a child that young about the concept of GOD, they can't fully understand it. It's also not fair to the child at all to be told that a blind faith is the way to go and not use logic. Teach the child to back up their beliefs with proof and then explain to them the concept of God later on in there early teens or something.

Firstly you have to be believer of GOD then you can explain the concept to any age. You must be aware that a child learn maximum things upto the age of 6 - 7.

By using illustrative stories, from your religion. Also by teaching him the right values of life and what things are wrong, and describing the need to do right , the reward for doing the right things, the way these rewards are given by 'God'. God has to be personified for a very young child, in order for him to be able to relate to and understand the concept.

I have four children, 2 girls and 2 boys, aged 6, 5, 4 and 1.
Explaining God to my children who are 6,5 and 4 is not really difficult. One, they see me praying and I bring them to church. There they see a lot of other people praying.
They also have books in school about God, about how He created the world, and how much He loves us. It is very helpful that their teachers talk about religion and faith in school.
When times are harder and the kids can't comprehend the meaning of "saving for the rainy days", it's so nice seeing them asking me if they should pray to God for help. One thing they now know is that there is nothing impossible with God.
I would say that the best way to teach them really is to set an example to them. Let them see how much faith you have, and when able, let them join you in praying.

To be honest I think it's more important to be teaching our children how to be good humanbeings before trying to indoctrinate them with concepts that are just too big. At that age, focus on being kind to animals and friends. Teach courtesy and manners. Give them the tools to live successfully.

Some famous guy said something like, "Behind every watch there has to have been a watchmaker. So behind our wonderful world there is a creator, that mastermind is God."

Good question...Just start taking him/her to religous services. They'll get adapted to that enviornment and they'll start asking questions which you can answer. I think that's the best way...
