if its apill try wrapping it in a small bit of cheese , or if wont eat that then open mouth quickly put/shove tablet right up back of mouth almost down the throat and close and hold shut mouth , rub under neck softly, dog will swallow it, i knwo it sounds very forceful and mean but its the only way you can get some dogs to take pills, - i know i have a little gurl who wont ever take her pills, not even the tasty chew forms of pills

For pills, open mouth, put pill as far back as you can in the throat. With large dogs, your hand will have to go in pretty far to accomplish this. Hold the snout closed and rub the throat. This makes the dog swallow.
For liquids, I use a syringe, without a needle and squirt the liquid from the side of the mouth a little at a time.

If it's liquid, with the dosing syringe placed to the back side of it's mouth(to prevent choking), you release the liquids.
Pill form, you need to place the pill as far back as possible on teir tongue. Quckly hold the mouth shut and then rub the throat to make the dog swallow.
Although if you can get the dog just to take it in some peanut butter or even in meat or cheese, it would be so much easier for both of you.
I justed suggested the forced pill method because you mentioned he wassn't eating!
Good Luck!

The best way is to wrap it in a small piece of cheese. If he literally won't eat at all, you'll have to open his mouth by putting pressure at the back corners of his lips on both sides at the same time - this does not hurt him. Then put the medicine as far back as you can in his mouth. Then hold his mouth firmly shut for at least a minute. He will eventually have to swallow. Don't squeeze his snout too tightly or he can't breathe. Good luck!

If it's a pill, try putting it in some peanut butter then scraping the roof of his mouth with it. If it's in liquid form, gently open the side of his mouth and squirt the syringe in from there. In the meantime, try adding some extra flavor i.e. gravy, an egg, leftovers to his regular food, but not too much because you don't want him to get used to it after he's feeling better. Good Luck!

Just an addition to the first answer: After the pill is in his mouth, and you are holding his mouth closed, stroke his throat gently. When he goes to lick his nose, you know he has swallowed the pill.
Even when my dog doesn't like to eat, he does like snacks like meat or cheese. He is smart enough to know I am trying to sneak a pill in it, but, if I give him a small piece of meat or cheese without a pill, then, the second piece of treat gets the pill, and he usually takes it real quick.

Trick him first with some tiny pieces of dog biscuits and when he is "addicted" you shove both pill and a biscuit into his mouth at once. Another way is to "prise " open his mouth and put the pill right into his throat as far as you can, and then quickly close his mouth, holding it shut while rubbing his throat under the chin to smooth the ingestion.

Pill or liquid form?
If a pill, open his mouth, hold it open, put the pill behind the back of his tongue and insert hand into mouth, using finger to push pill down into throat opening, hold mouth shut a few seconds.
Liquid can be done the same way, only there is no need to put your hand into his mouth.
Gently, not forcing your finger DOWN his throat.
