I'm watching the Lamont vs. Lieberman race on T.V. and I started wondering... Why wouldn't you always vote for the new guy?...
Also what are the criteria you consider when voting. And how do you pick when you've never heard of either person running for the office? And do you vote for women just because they're women or pretty.... or, do you never vote for women just because they are women? I'm curious

The known evil? Politicians should be changed often, you know kind'a like diapers, and basically for the same reasons. I would be glad to vote for a woman, but just like the guys, I would want a person that I thought would look out for the interest of the State, or whatever her or she represented. An attractive woman politician with brains and integrity would be great. Know one? The problem as I see it is our system weeds out the good people by the way they need to raise money. By the a person gets into office they are beholding to groups with money, and from there it's string pulling time. If you look at the records, big cooperation's many times give money to both sides. One of the many other problems is that the very best people to run this country are not willing to put up with the circus we've created. For a Republic to work properly you need an educated public, not one that is told by the 6:00 news which candidate might not be as bad as the other. Agggg, murrayc's right! If voters recognize the name they'll vote for them. We're screwed!!

It takes time to learn about each candidate. An incumbent can get on TV everyday of the week for free. Americans are busy, that is not a criticism it is just a fact. We have a news station in our area that broadcast local news from 5AM to 7 AM then switches to the TODAY show for 3 more hours. Useful information? Perhaps 15 minutes then gossip, entertainment news, household tips, latest fashions, book plugs, movie plugs etc, fill up most of the time. Accident, I think not. Social engineering more likely. 4.75 hours of worthless information day after day after day.

Because people are inheritently lazy. They take no time to learn about the politicians particular platform or anything about them.
It is easy to just mark vote party line but you still get credit for voting.

It's easier than thinking or taking the time to pay attention to the issues.

I look at the issues (especially education) and then make my decision.
